I know for 10K and maybe 20K (can it be reset before hitting the number? In order to get it to service prior to the 20K free maintenance timeframe), but can the Maintenance Message be reset with an ODBII dongle/software that can perform a reset? OR…… Do we need to be connected to something else and it is cost prohibitive to own one?

Looking at what is done at the 10K (nothing), I personally may not have time to waste at the dealer….

There will be plenty time for your busy schedule to make room for service inspection.....and this is something that is necessary when owning car under warranty....if this still not working for you...i would advise you to use rental instead of owning the EV...so when time comes for service visit you just call for rental swap.

Huh? That really doesn't answer the question now, does it. It wasn't finding time in my schedule, it was wasting the time I have that I was concerned about. Once someone owns the car, they are not obligated to take it to the dealer for service. Now while FREE and under warranty, I totally understand taking it in, even if there is a lot of "checking" going on...When the car is out of warranty, I am certainly going to think and about paying $85/hr+ to check stuff - just like I do with ANY other car EV or not.

But my question wasn't debating the value (or not) of the dealer's service department but if there was a way to turn off the message light.

Everyone has a right to decide what to do with their vehicles. There must be an easy way to reset the reminder if we decide to do service on our own.
Right.....I was just looking for information not a debate on dealer service department value.🤷‍♂️

If the vehicle is still under the warranty, why not take it to the dealer for the Schedule Maintenance? Otherwise, you might void the warranty.
Another thing, a used vehicle with a well-documented dealer or independent garage service history will sell more than one without one.

With an ice car, I always did my own service as I didn’t want anyone to touch my car. Seems like they always put a young kid on the job and the car would come back messy or with another issue. With the ID4, I don’t think we’re going to have as much of a choice because it’s basically a computer on wheels. The things we still have control over, I would prefer to do myself (brakes, fluid top off/changes, rotate tires, etc). My car has not experienced any software issues and it seems like a few on here have had an issue when pulling away from the dealership. Why plug it in and touch it if things are working as they should? OTA updates should improve on existing glitches. Eventually, the car should never need to go in if VW beefs up remote support and can connect to it remotely to diagnose. Think of it like a smart phone. We rarely go to the Apple Store if there’s an issue. There are steps we can take to resolve the issue with tech support and/or a reboot. Main point is, I paid for the vehicle and therefore I should have the option to service it myself. Any major work, I’m happy to hand it over to an experienced technician.

Also, I’ve never had an issue with resale because I chose to do my own service. With trading in, dealerships don’t look at that. With private sales, I’ve shown my receipts and dates of all of my maintenance. They have always understood and are happy purchasing from me.

Eventually you will have two ways.... buy necessary equipment. Access various bbulletins...service manual....wiring schematics scan tools and troubleshoot and do your own work...or find one technician you trust and whenever you have your EV service put in writing that you will only accept technician of your choice and nobody else can touch your EV. Remember reputation of the dealership is not on the Owner...but the quality of technician working in the service. When you have absolute trust in the technician....even he makes mistake sometimes it will still make your relationship better in the future...because he knows you as human not just as work order number.
Give it a try you will be impressed .....

Gone are the days of holding down the trip meter & powering on the car (seeing the odometer dash marks disappear in a countdown)...

My ride went over 8800 miles yesterday. Now every time I power up the car, there is a message "Service in 1200 miles"

Yeah, mine just hit 8.5K, so my message is forthcoming....But I'll be scheduling a service at VW just to make sure everything is good (should make VW Technician happy :))....But I will try to reset it prior anyway, just to answer the unanswered question (can it be reset w/o going in?).... 😂

Mine is at a Service at this very moment. I will ask them if it can be reset on my own when I pick it up. As it is, the seatbelts on recall did not arrive, so the car will be back at Service for those items in the coming weeks again... Have a feeling that by the time the seatbelts arrive, that the car will be at 10K. Especially since when the Infotainment died last month the odo was at 6700...

At 1st, I was told that I could this afternoon when I picked up the car for the new infotainment screen. Actually, I couldn't, so I went back in.

The tech who just worked on my car, brought the car back into the garage. After about 20 minutes, I was told they have to call Tech Support for the Techs.

It seems... That this line of code hasn't gotten a service directive yet. I'm one of the first (feel so honoured with warm & fuzzies)!

In order to clear this Service in 1200 miles or 180 days, the scan tool that the techs use, needs a special password (ID specific) to not only get into the area to clear the code, but also the line command is a special code too? Once completed, the scan tool needs to be reset,(to clear the passwords), which the tech then had to the reset with his codes to use on other cars.

At least this is what the tech (who was a bit verklempt about this hassle) came across. Especially since the techs are not seeing anything on their computers to cope with this message.

Service techs at the VW dealer I purchased my ID4 are not well informed. As a former auto tech I understand my vehicle better than they do, so I will do my own servicing!

If cost of tools and scanners and subscription to ODIS is not the issue.....you will have great time working on EV.
Remember not all technicians are the same...some are actually good at what they do.
You will still have no choice for any warranty related services it will have to be at warranty authorized VW service centers.
