Looking to take a 1,200 jaunt the end of June and come back July 4th weekend. Haven't driven this far in a long time, and NEVER in an EV. Love to hear any thoughts you might share on things to look out for - especially from those who've taken an EV this sort of distance... I mean seriously.... 2,400 miles. It's a ways.

Thanks!

What is your destination and where are you starting from?

The main thing that is different is route planning - in particular, knowing where exactly the chargers are. The builtin navi sort of attempts to do this, but doesn't do a good job of it. If you haven't already, download ABRP and PlugShare, and familiarize yourself with them. It is worth checking plugshare for any chargers you might wish to use and see if there are recent checkins, and whether people have had success or problems (particularly with off-brand charging networks).

If you are staying in hotels, try and find ones that have EV charging. That way you can start out in the morning with a full charge.

I would add: If you are staying with friends or family, look into ways to plug into their 240V outlets to charge overnight. I bought a Mustart Travelmate for that purpose. The less you have to worry about finding the next charge point, and then spend time there, the better.

Traveling from Annapolis, MD to Minneapolis, MN. It's a haul. Have the ABRP app and have done the specs for stops at chargers... and Pennsylvania is the only dicey place. PA is ALWAYS dicey whether gas or now EV... 'cause they have so few stops on the way... and getting on and off is such a pain.

Christoph... yeah... looking at similar. Got some help on that from InsideEV's forum so far.
Swing by my place in Saint Paul when you're out here, I should have my Dusk Blue Pro S (but non-Gradient) by then.

And let us all know what travel EVSE you end up getting, the Mustart Travelmaster seems pretty scarce now.

I was just there over the weekend. But driving an ICE rental. Honest to god - there was one time I forgot that I needed to start the engine before driving, and it took me a few seconds to figure out what the problem was.

I'm doing a trip to pittsburgh soon - what do you mean by "getting on and off is a pain?"

You might have more time, but we were travelling hard to get to a place. As such, time spent from freeway to charger needs to be factored in. If you take two different chargers, Winnemucca and Battle Mountain. Winnemucca needs you to come of, go round the houses and back to the walmart. Battle mountain, you come off at one exit, get back on at the next.

I just did an 1,100 mile trip a couple weekends ago - Orange County (CA) to Yosemite to Monterey to OC. I used A Better Route Planner (ABRP) to map things out on my PC, which instantly transferred to my phone & was available in the car. We stayed in Oakhurst, CA (outside of Yosemite) because they had an EA station in town. The Monterey B&B we stayed in - I talked to the owner (who had a Tesla destination charger) about using it for my ID. The lady had never had anything other than a Tesla hooked up to it, but said she was up for an adventure, so I bought the TeslaTap adapter (figured I'd be using it often enough to justify the cost). For me, the trip was a 2.5 hr drive with a half-hour pit stop (wash, rinse, repeat). My wife loves it because, here in CA, a lot of EA chargers are at outlet malls, so she had "things to do" while we were waiting. FYI - AirBNB has a filter for "EV Charger" that came in handy.

We used that AirBnB filter for our stay in NYC - very useful to not need to DC fast charge. Its also why I carry the Tesla Mobile Charger with me, to take advantage of 30 and 50 amp service.
