So my FE is presently at the dealer getting the hood cable & handle replaced. Seems that it broke a few weeks back when the sway bar links where replaced. The tech attempted to open the hood & it would not unlock. I had just opened the hood successfully to add windshield washer fluid 3 days earlier.

Alas, when I arrived this AM, a dealership staffer said hello & greeted me by name as I walked in the door. (this is a good thing) He wanted to know if I had heard about the suspension of the software update. He just "officially" learned about it the other day. i.e. now officially that he could talk about it. Since they hadn't done any update attempts since the announcement in Dec. (although they did ask higher ups that customers had come in & asked specifically for it: not me), it is funny that the customer is knowing more scuttlebutt. Plausible deniability keeps one's employment... Hence why a specific forum technician can only say things generally....

This software issue is not only isolated to the ID series. Some of you may or may not recall that the Golf Mk VIII in the Europe market are plagued with software issues. Heck even right now, the Taos ICE SEL that I have as a loaner has an infotainment system & screen like my ID4. So linking my Android to the infotainment was as simple as adjusting the mirrors...

For all of you disgruntled owners with ongoing problems, I encourage you to explore your rights under your state's lemon laws.
Yeah, while the entire software stack is different, I'm pretty sure the actual infotainment running on MEB3 and some of the communications software systems have just been abstracted and are running in VM's on the new software stack used on the MEB cars. Architecturally, the MEB car and the Golf are very different. But that doesn't mean that aren't running some of the same software subsystems.

Obscure? Is not 2001: A Space Odyssey the greatest movie of all time? ;)
Sure. To old folks like us. I saw it in 1968 on three consecutive nights at the Wards Corner Cinema in Norfolk VA, and about five times since. But a few years back I made that same 2001 reference in a magazine article, and my 30-something copyeditor queried "Is this a quotation from something?"
Kids these days indeed.

I also enjoyed 2010: The Year We Make Contact even tho' many apparently did not and it was filmed/most often presented in lower resolution than 2001. But I think I mostly liked it as it featured my 1984 Apple //c with early LCD display (albeit in movie-chrono 2010). Same reason I like A View to a Kill (Bond, James Bond). Well, that and Tanya Roberts using it. ;)

btw: I was so enamored with 2001 that I drew USS Discovery I in my HS drafting class. The pod bay doors being the most difficult in isometric view. 😆

Good thing SA 97FY is kaput as it opens us up to more interesting topics. 😁

Well, to continue our diversion down Kubrick Lane, I was surprised to find my favorite of his films ended up being Barry Lyndon. I still watch that one whenever it's on. And it passes the approval of my movie-snob 13-year-old nephew. Who finds 2001 "interesting, but quaint," in the same way we might smile benignly upon our parents' fondness for Mary Pickford in Daddy Long-Legs.

I was on of the small number of 2021 FE that received the update, took a week, i had a loaner, but it was well worth it, car is running great and the updates working as they should. They only problem i'm having is some message i keep getting about license expired, i need to take it over to VW and get that checked out jus haven't done that yet.

Dealer told me to call Carnet for license expired message. Some of the owners have same message. For now I am just ignoring the message. Don’t think there is a fix for that yet.. I have 23 model..

Yeah it's no emergency, not causing any issues, hence why I haven't gone over that yet.
