Settings

Got my car last night. 3rd electric car for me so alot of stuff I already knew. So far, the VW settings are hard to find and way more complex then they should be.

There are two settings I cant seem to find. One is a front seat convenience. The manual says you can turn it on in infotainment but i cant find. Its the setting that automatically moves the seat back and then forward when you close the door.

The 2nd is the climate controls. Whatever ive tried, the settings dont keep after i turn it off. The temperature, fan speeds always reset.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Seat memory used to save seat setting, mirror settings, and AC settings. Have you tried setting your seat memory with everything set where you want it?
And they used to call the seat function easy entry. Which was toggled on and off in the cluster. I’d assume it’s similar. Frankly I really can not wait to get mine! Where in Florida are you? I’m in the Orlando area
Larry my wife and I sat together and plowed through all the menus and I don't recall seeing anything about the easy entry setting you're referring to. If it's in the manual (and honestly, I haven't much looked through mine) then perhaps you should add this to the "bug" thread in the hopes of getting it resolved. I'm curious if the European spec has this feature enabled. It would be nice, since memory settings aren't tied to the keys, as I have to get into a pretty cramped front seat after my wife drives.

I agree with you, the ID.4 menu is unnecessarily cumbersome. Not awful, just sloppy. Just for example, the home menu with the three dots at the bottom ... to indicate there are more screens to the right by swiping, that's fine, but it should preclude there also being "hidden" icons down below on that same screen that require swiping up. Nothing though that can't be fixed in a future update, and I'm convinced we'll see a substantive clean-up as VW has to get this right.

I don’t think the easy entry feature is a common VW feature. I’ve owned more than 10 VW’s, some with memory seats/mirrors, and I don’t recall any of them having the easy entry feature. I’m guessing the ID.4 just doesn’t have this feature and that’s why you can’t find it. Although, you said it’s in the manual?? Owner’s manuals often include features that aren’t available in every model/trim, however.

The HVAC not remembering the last-used settings is odd. Again, I’ve had numerous VW’s and many of them have had automatic climate control, including my current 2020 Jetta. The HVAC always remembers the last-used settings (remembers them between driver profiles, too, but we won’t go there...).

I can’t imagine this doesn’t have it, we have 2019 Tiguan and it has this function. You set it up through the key fob function with our Tiguan. So what key it senses at the drivers door it will automatically move the seats, mirrors, radio and volume to that persons preferred settings. You also have the manual set functions for the seats on the left side of the drivers seat. You set those manually using the 1 or 2 and pushing set. This is for seat position only.

This is very interesting. I am seeing some features which are there when the ignition is off, and ask you to have the ignition on to set it, but when you turn the ignition on they disappear. I assume that is what you are trying to show here...

So i found the setting. This only shows when getting in the car, but not starting it. Its in the interior setting section of vehicle. As you can see it wont let me turn it on until the car is startes. Once i do, the option goes away

Found the easy entry but doesn't work, cant change setting. Im in Pompano Beach. Until i got the car Friday night inwas like you and couldn't wait to get it, now not so much. The steering wheel info is usless, other than speed, the infotainment software doesn't work. I have better information and control over displays in my 2018 BOLT.

Yes, the control software leaves a lot to be desired.
I suggest contacting VW e-mobility and VW support with these issues. The more of us that do that, the sooner this will be improved.

Yeah I agree these issues need to be reported straight to VW so they can get corrected ASAP. They can’t fix it if they don’t know about it. Sucks we will be the ones being beta testers but that’s what we are.

I just did a little experiment and found all kinds of menu options that are non-selectable that go away after you try and select them with the ignition on (foot on brake) and will not come back until you reset the infotainment center all together. Some of these look helpful. Here goes with what I found. You can see them to if you reboot your infotainment by holding down the power button for ~20 seconds until the screen goes blank.

Sorry for the photo dump, but I went through after reset and took pictures of all settings that were not there normally. Not sure if this is stuff VW is going to enable, but my take away is that the software / firmware is usable but is very much on the beta side. They do need to get this worked out before a ton of these are on the market and more non-technical drivers start to complain.

Wow. We seem to be missing so many possible easy already thought about or failing upgrades and options. Maybe many of these were just dropped to get the ID4 out the door.
Bets on which may appear and which may suddenly disappear.
I really hope the automatic locking gets enabled, I know it's nitpicking but I really loathe having to fish the fob out of my pocket for any reason these days. I know you can tap the outside of the door handle (right?) to lock but that also is really nice to skip, when you can just get out and walk away without having to do anything it feels quite fancy and I'm very used to it from my Bolt.

My FE unlocks as I approach it and locks when I leave it. Not sure how I set that up.
Sorry that doesn't help you but it's there.

Oh, ok, I thought I saw in other threads that some folks were having trouble with their ID.4s not being able to lock automatically

Mine does as well but with some operational notes. If I walk up it unlocks and if I do not open a door, it relocks. If I open a door after the auto-unlock it will not relock as I walk away. I think if you have seen an auto-relock with 0792 then it was likely because you did not open a door after a auto-unlock.

We need an option to enable auto-relock.

Out of curiosity, can someone try engaging the ignition with the button in the steering column rather than the brake and see if the options still disappear?

(I’m an AWD pre-order, no car yet to try with)

Just performed this test and it does not make a difference. Turning the car on via the switch without any foot on the brake makes the options disappear. Note: I have found that once the car is turned on once all options disappear until the infotainment system is rebooted and then they only show before starting the car. Here was my test.
  1. Got in car
  2. Reset the infotainment by holding the power button for 20 seconds
  3. Checked Vehicle->Interior and observed the “Seats” option

  4. Then turned on the car with the steering wheel button and the Seats option disappeared.

Well, was worth a try!

I think this must be a bug and should probably reported as such.
