Although as I often cite I rarely have any gremlins, I must admit there are times when I wonder "is today the day", so do empathize with less than complete confidence. Of course most of that wondering is resultant of participation in this forum. I imagine there are many non-forum folks who through "ignorance is bliss" have no issues, or have just accepted/ignore/don't notice erroneous warning messages.

Nope, still no if/when insight. We've had many supposedly "in the know" insider projections that have come and gone. I no longer pay heed to any of it and just await the "I got the call for update" threads here and hopefully my own dealer SA's call.
I also worry about issues cropping up with this car. It has been rock solid for over a year but I totally understand the "today could be the day" feeling. That is the main reason we only use the car locally now. I have more confidence in my 14 year old Tundra to the point that I'll pull my trailer for a thousand miles with out any concern.

In the past several weeks we have added a couple thousand more miles (now 28,400) to the ID. I have spent the better part of the past 18 months trying to eliminate range anxiety. I think I have succeeded.

The more electronics, the more risk of getting stranded along the road with all modern cars.
In the past we were not so helpless in the event of a breakdown and we could often repair the problem ourselves or drive to a repair place with some duck tape fix.
I worry as little as possible and try to enjoy every ride as much as possible.
I also ignore too much self-diagnosis with OBD scanners.
Degradation, error codes, reading of possible bad cells I pass by and I keep myself ignorant.

Apparently the Porche family feels the same. They just grabbed a pile of money and will run away and leaves us all high and dry.

I used to pride myself on being able to limp home any vehicle with some resourcefulness, duck/duct tape, etc. But with the advent of extensive computer control much harder to do so indeed.

I imagine this is what wagon drivers argued at the advent of motorcars. But I'll readily admit that my progression from a 1975 Datsun pickup to the current state of ICE has left my mechanical abilities in the dust, while at the same time increasing overall reliability to where those mechanical abilities were called to the test less and less often.

I was watching Technology Connections latest video where Alex was explaining how a 50 year old battery-less point and shoot camera works (still working, after all these years), and I can't help but to marvel at the mechanical ingenuity – not only what went in to creating this affordable piece of art, but the engineering skills that have probably been eroded since the dawn of the microprocessor, where we've given up something commonly understandable and fixable for something masked underneath plastic that may as well be powered by faith and magic.

The only thing we can do now is close it and wait for 30 minutes and if that doesn't work wait for a tow truck.
And when we finally get home then start complaining on this forum here.😆

Don't forget the 10MM wrench fix. Disconnect the positive side of the 12v battery to get the car to do a factory reset on the software. Not optimal, but as a last resort it beats waiting for the tow truck.

Here's the timeline for USA software upgrades:

It's going to be summer. or maybe fall. possibly winter or spring. Not sure what year, but definitely summer, fall, winter, or spring. That is, assuming it happens at all. I hope it comes soon but I still love my ID.4!
I heard that we’ll get an upgrade in 3022. Precisely when in 3022 is up for debate. Personally, I’m guessing late fall.

Anyone get this email? Any hints on the issues, expected timing? I have not see this show up on the EV enthusiasts news feeds.

On December 6, 2022 we announced a first wave of software updates to a small number of MY21 ID.4 vehicles with a service action taking place in Volkswagen dealerships. We’ve since identified software improvements to address important issues that have come to our attention. Updated software will soon be available. To improve the customer experience and avoid requiring additional customers to make repeat trips to Volkswagen dealerships, we have paused any further activities. We will be launching a new updated solution in short order, which will be available to all MY21 ID.4 customers.
We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to provide you with improved solutions and experiences.

Yep, many of us got it. The issues have been discussed in many threads: the upgrades took multiple days, often module updates and they were bad for customers and dealers. Hopefully the new process will be better.

No idea on timing.

Still running 0792 software on 2021 ID.4. Got the letter, called my friend at Sonnen VW in Marin asking if I could please jump the line and get upgraded, news flash...all software releases have been cancelled...no ETA. And yes, the dealer took days to install the few upgrades they completed. Huge FAIL on VW....
You missed the part where that was a pilot program, right?
