I thought maybe we could get a consolidated list of software features that we would like to see implemented/fixed and have them in one place so that in the off chance VW looks to this forum for feedback we can have something ready. If this gains traction maybe we can get a sticky?

Here is my current software wishlist:
  • Camping/Pet Mode
    • Keep climate on without weight in the seat
    • Maybe disable this feature if HV battery is <20%
    • Option on "Goodbye" screen to keep vehicle/acc on
  • V2L from the J1772 Port
    • Like the Ioniq 5 has
    • 120v 15a-20a would be a nice start
  • User Profiles
    • Mobile devices should be tied to a profile
      • My wife's phone should only connect when her profile is active
    • If there is only one profile, do not force you to make a selection at the start of the ride
    • Select the last profile used if no selection is made after 60 seconds
    • Key fobs tied to user profiles
  • Battery Preconditioning
    • Option on the charging menu to manually enable?
    • Enables when navigating to a charging station
      • via Default navigation
      • via Android Auto/Apple CarPlay Navigation (nice to have, not sure if possible)
  • Android Auto sometimes takes forever to connect (wired & wireless)
    • Sometimes you have to select "Use Android Auto" sometimes you don't? Why?
    • Sometimes have to reboot infotainment to get it to connect
    • Unsure if these issues also affect Apple CarPlay
  • Mobile App Improvements
    • Schedule Departure times from app, including 1-time departures
  • Mobile App Bugs
    • Generally crappy experience
    • Shows doors open / car unlocked when that is not the case
    • Remotely turning on climate does not work consistently
    • Stay signed in, logging back in every time is exhausting
  • Fix Infotainment UI Lag
    • Still unacceptably slow on 3.1
  • Auto-lock after driver walks away from car after x minutes
  • Warning if the charger door is open (unsure if sensor exists)
  • Quarterly OTA updates for all model years
    • Keep us all on the same software version
    • Allow connectivity to home Wi-Fi for updates / connectivity
  • Adjustable Regen - All the way to full 1-pedal driving
  • Sentry Mode
    • Record cameras if usb drive is attached and feature enabled
  • Open API
    • Retrieve vehicle stats, drive stats, charging stats
    • Google Assistant integration
      • Hey Google, warm up my id.4
      • Hey Google, stop charging my id.4

I'd like to be able to set a one-time next departure time from the mobile app. I typically know the next time I need to leave, but that doesn't mean my departure times are on a regular daily schedule. Make this available both from the mobile app as well as from the goodbye screen. Similarly, I'd like to be able to cancel the next departure time from the mobile app without deleting the scheduled departure time. Maybe even a snooze type feature. This way if we're running late in the morning or a kids event has finished but we haven't gotten to the car yet the climate can be prompted to continue running.

I'd like a way to temporarily override the seat sensor. If I'm getting home and need to toss the trash barrels in the back or grab the mail from the mailbox I don't want the car to go through a shutdown / startup cycle because of that brief stop.

I'd like to get an alert if I put the vehicle in motion while the charging door is open. This one might actually take some hardware. I know the charging port door has an automatic lock, but not sure if it has any type of sensor.

Sentry mode / dashcam. I know my 2021 model doesn't have the side cameras for true sentry mode, but it does have front and rear cameras. Let me install a USB stick in the center console to capture video both while parked as well as while in motion.

An open API for me to develop my own applications against the vehicle's telematics data.

Integration with Google Assistant. "Hey Google, warm up the ID.4". "Hey Google, start defrosting the ID.4". "Hey Google, what's the remaining range on the ID.4". "Hey Google, is the ID.4 locked?" It's nice that there is a mobile app, but it would also be nice to get these answers without the need to take my phone out of my pocket.

As a commuter I'd like to be able to only warm the car when plugged in(i.e. not charge it.) It would be great if I could minimize the number of battery charge cycles but use the J1772 as a heat battery/interior power. This might not even be possible from a hardware standpoint but I'm trying to maximize the HV battery life given my commuting distance(70 miles round trip.)

You can do this now in 3 ways. 1. Start remote climate from the app and it warms the cabin and battery and all power is drawn from the house. Just leave it plugged in after finished charging. 2. use the app to set your charge level higher so it starts charging. Wait 1 minute, then set the charge level back down so it stops charging. It will continue the battery warming cycle it just started. This is good for battery warming when you don't also want cabin heat. 3. Sit in the car and start climate from infotainment. The cabin heat and battery warming comes from the house as long as you use L2 > 25A.

Thanks. I had read on here of the warming in the morning when the car was fully charged, but had not fully thought it through when the battery was below the set level. It takes me about 20%(in the winter) in each 35 mile direction. Just trying to eek out another 10% so that my charging cycles will bounce between 10-80%.

  • Goodbye Screen
    • Add "Leave Car On" option so we can get out and get mail etc. without the car shutting off
  • Mobile App
    • Ability to Lock/Unlock doors from app
    • Show current charge rate
    • Keep me signed in
  • API
    • Have a robust API that would allow us to have something similar to Teslafi (record drives/charging sessions etc.)
  • Cameras (might need to plug in USB memory stick)
    • Sentry Mode clone
    • Dash Cam Mode

If you have a pet mode it should NEVER be disabled in favor of preserving battery charge.
"Hey fluffy was just cooked to death, but at least my battery is at 20%"

Google Assistant integration
  • Hey Google, warm up my id.4
  • Hey Google, stop charging my id.4
There is already a skill for the Amazon Echo to do this.

"Alexa, start climate control"

True if it is for pet, but not if used for camping. Should be two modes. Pet mode should also always show the temp on the screen so passerby doesn't smash your window. Camping mode would not have the screen on and have a SoC limit.

My understanding is that the id.4 has all the requisite hardware, the J1772 spec supports it, so indeed it would be enabled via a software update. I think VW has said it is on the table for current models.
Ok? I heard it would support V2G, not V2L. But I would love to be corrected, as the V2L from Ioniq 5 is very much wanted.

Being able to use my phone as a key would be great. The less I have to carry in my pockets the better. And I wouldn't have to worry about misplacing a key fob that's more expensive than my phone for some reason. At the very least, you should be able to work the locks remotely through the app
