There's a thread for things people want changed. But I feel like it includes too much hardware and I was wanting a thread focused on software that is currently possible. We all know brake hold and plug & charge are coming and bug fixes but there could be more updates to comfort & convenience. My big one that I just experienced after coming home from work is the light near the charger port doesn't always turn on. I had to turn on my garage lights to be able to plug-in. I'd like for it to turn on all the time when the cap is open and maybe turn on again when the car sees you approach again.

That's true. We do have a lengthy current code bug report which also highlights some desired improvements, as well as the 27-page "we'd like to see" thread which does tend to be more hardware in nature, but no dedicated software wish list. Have at it. ;)

For me it would be a top menu capability to turn on/off steering wheel heating. I know the other methods but my wife and other potential drivers do not, so just make it easier.

  • Driver profile tied to the key including seat memory, phone priority for Bluetooth and Android auto/car play, and drive mode (eco, comfort, etc)
  • Select default backup camera mode
  • Backup camera mode changes based on last gear. Parking mode if coming out of D, wide angle if coming out of P.
  • Option to keep accessory mode on when driver exits the vehicle, either by pressing the start stop button or an option on the goodbye screen. For me, everything turns off when I exit the driver seat no matter what I do including select the immediate climate option. Maybe a bug?

You can add steering wheel heating to the quick access screen. I don't think it needs to be any quicker than that.

I would still like the steering wheel heat icon immediately above the seat warmer touch icons. As I said I know the other methods but this is more for my wife and others.

And further this is my wish list Item, so …. 😉

I can definitely second the charge port light turning on, but it makes more sense to have it turn on whenever that charge door is opened. And the option to keep the car "on" when getting out (maybe a timespan setting we can select on the goodbye screen) would be very nice to have for when you just need to quickly get out to do something (like get the mail, or grab something from the trunk real quick) but want to keep your connected music playing and the AC on.

It's already pretty silly that there isn't a steering wheel heat button ON the actual damn wheel, like almost every other car I've seen that has one...and since there are no physical dedicated buttons in the infotainment for seat or wheel heating, they really really should dedicate some of that left space on the screen for buttons that directly turn the heating on and off. It's very redundant right now that you tap on the heated seat icons and it just opens the climate menu, which you can already directly access with a hard-wired capacitive button.

I'd like to see android auto use up the whole screen. I'm not a fan of seeing the seat icon on screen but all it does is take you to clima control when you click on it. Same with seeing connection status, temperature and time.. It's all on the Android auto and you could probably program the home button to be the power button or swipe up from the button when in full screen.

Reverse the highlighting of the climate control power button so that it becomes colored when on and not colored when off. This would match the highlighting used throughout the system elsewhere. Why this one button is backwards is a mystery to me.
Yeah I totally agree. In almost ALL conventions a lit or darkened light indicator means ON or ACTIVE. NOT off. Never seen that ever. So wish their OTA updates would do that as well.

I mentioned this on one of the other threads, but I’d appreciate it if the overall UI bright/dark mode could have an auto setting tied to auto headlight on/off. Bright for “off” / daytime and dark for “on” / night time.
Completely agree with others who’ve asked for improvements to the seat and wheel heater controls.

My BMW X5 has a feature where light on = feature off, confusing as all get out. Must be a German thing.

I’d enjoy a setting to automatically cycle the ambient lighting colors as you drive, such that you might not notice the colors changing, but register every now and again that they had changed.

Another idea along these lines would be a mode to have the ambient lighting adjust on a gradient based on speed.

+1 for whoever mentioned leaving the auto high beams on between driving sessions, so you don’t have to remember to turn them on as dusk.

I’d appreciate if the car could remember my “B” mode preference between sessions. Could be a key-linked feature or a matter of remembering the setting from the prior session.

1. The color of the ID.4 in the various menus should match the actual car.
2. Explicit driver profiles in the interface. Right now there are apparently some settings that are saved with the driver seat memory buttons but I have no clue what those settings are. Radio presets, driver seat memory (both 1 and 2), driving mode, climate control settings, bluetooth and carplay priority, UI layout, ambient lighting, etc should all be tied to a driver profile. Should support many profiles. Also you should be able to tie a specific profile to a specific key.
3. Ability to set custom background pictures. If in clock display mode, have an option to cycle through background pictures, perhaps pulling from the photos of the currently connected phone.
4. Screen cleaning mode that locks the display and other touch surfaces so you can clean without accidental touch and button presses.
5. SDK (Software Development Kit) so we can write our own apps. I've been waiting for this since I got a Volt in 2013. Back then GM was receptive to the idea and I even had a few email conversations about it, but it went nowhere. Then I got a Tesla and really thought we'd get an SDK there, but nope. If VW were to do it, possibilities are endless. They could have an app store directly in the UI. You could play Spotify directly from the UI instead of through carplay/AA for example.

1. I'd like to see support for the new split screen Android Auto. This allows you to have maps on one half and some other app on the other half. The ID.4 screen is more than large enough to support it.

2. I REALLY want a "default to B mode." It irritates me to have to hit drive twice because the car simply refuses to remember I prefer B mode.

3. I would like more B mode customization. I personally do not feel it is strong enough compared to other EVs I've driven. Also, the ability for B mode to come to a complete stop instead of the current implementation where the driver still needs to use the break.

4. I have not seen any way to turn on a chime for the blind spot detection. My car only flashes the BSM light if I put my blinker on, but there is no chime. I'd like that feature added.

5. Dramatically reduce the lock sound duration when you have the setting turned on. By default the car makes no noise when you hit lock. If you turn the lock sound on, it is an absurdly long and loud honk.

6. PLEASE VW give us basic features in Car-Net! We should be able to lock, unlock, flash lights, sound horn, and locate the vehicle from the app. The current software is pathetic compared to literally every other car.

7. The "next song" button should be the UP arrow on the steering wheel, not the down arrow.

8. The actual tire PSI should show on the screen. Currently the software only shows you that a tire is low, but it doesn't show you any of the numerical measurements.

9. There is an auto unlock as you approach the vehicle, but there are no settings to toggle an automatic lock that I can find. This should be added, whether it is a timed lock or one that detects the fob walking away.

I have kind of wondered what info you have available in an Android Auto app. But I haven't really investigated.

VW has mentioned in multiple places they plan to have their own app store in the UI. It is part of their strategy to use more of Android Automotive, see much more in
Android automotive OS takes over the market, can we benefit?
One thing they have not said is whether the existing ID.4 will be able to upgrade to get the app store. I think they will try to get us that, since that is where they can charge us for new features and apps.
