I have kind of wondered what info you have available in an Android Auto app. But I haven't really investigated.

I've been waiting for this since I got a Volt in 2013. Back then GM was receptive to the idea and I even had a few email conversations about it, but it went nowhere. Then I got a Tesla and really thought we'd get an SDK there, but nope. If VW were to do it, possibilities are endless. They could have an app store directly in the UI. You could play Spotify directly from the UI instead of through carplay/AA for example.
I finally saw something from VW - they are saying sometime next year, implying the 3.0 or 3.1 release. But "next year" is a big target. No and no, that rumor did not pan out for US vehicles. 2.3 is less glitchy but no substantial changes to address our collective wishlist
There was a book years ago called "The Mythical Man-month". Basically throwing a bunch more people at a project sometimes slows things down.I think VW needs 10 times more software engineers comparing to what they have right now. Their software development should be 10 times faster.
Thats likely a GPS limitation. If it realizes you aren't on the road that it thinks you are on, it will adjust. But GPS resolution limits the accuracy of the location data, and there needs to be a fuzz factor to keep the thing from hopping back and forth.Interesting. I was using the in-car nav just yesterday and noticed it had me on the frontage road for nearly a mile when I was actually on the freeway. I'm not studying this happens frequently, but I was surprised it took so long to resolve as the roads were diverging.
