Looking to upgrade the sound system in my ID4. New speakers and add an amp and subwoofer. Has anyone attempted this or had it done professionally? This being a new car I am a little conerned about installers messing something up. Not really worried about speakers but amp and subwoofer. Not sure if any plug and play devices for the ID4 yet. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yes see Upgrade VW ID.4 sound system for the best thread on it, or put 'sound upgrades' in the search box up top for more.

I finally upgraded my ID4 first edition with a subwoofer. Choose a Cerwin Vega 10" woofer and amp combo that fits perfectly under the false floor of the trunk. The sound system is 100% better with the sub. I kept the existing speakers which are pretty good. Totally happy with the sound system now. I had the Sub professionally installed and they were able to hook it directly into the existing sound system. I can even control the sub through the onscreen settings.

Congrats!

I'm curious - in what way is the sound improved - better bass or better in other ways as well?

What is the rate of current for your amplifier....AGM battery are not the same like battery for ICE cars....you may need to upgrade also for capacitors.... it will not hurt battery while ID4 is on and DC-DC is running but it will definitely hurt 12V battery if you listen while ID4 is off.
Good luck and be safe.

that’s very cool. How does the crossover work, does all of the sound run to the sub and it handles the crossover, or does the factory head unit know that there’s a sub and it does the crossover?

Hi Gambit, can you say more about the way the subwoofer and amplifier were installed? Is it easy to find the cables (12V and sound cables) in the boot..do they pass there or did you need to find the cables someehre else in the car?

it depends on the car type. Most cars have simple wiring for the sound system. check carefully, the cables (12V and sound cables) once, I faced this same issue, willing to upgrade the speaker of my car. I found the best guide for a useful solution. you can visit it if you worry about it
