AFter having 900 miles on the car, I've noticed an improvement on the sound system? I know for a fact that new speakers need to mature to actually provide the true sound. At first when I received the car, I did was not satisfied with the sound production especially with the absence of a subwoofer. Anyone experience this?

I haven't used it enough yet in 800 miles, but that would be nice if they got a little more sensitive. Hard to hear the bass at lower volumes.

I'll probably upgrade them all at some point but am curious if break-in makes them any better.

I noticed that too but have been quiet about it.

When I first got my car I thought the sound was absolutely horrible - restricted bandwidth, zero dynamics and very flat / one dimensional. I did notice an improvement after playing music for maybe 10 - 20 hours. Speaker suspensions and electronics do take time to break in, and I think that is a reasonable explanation for the improvements I heard. I still find the sound fairly mediocre, but it has more life to it than at first. I don't know how much more it will improve, and I still have only about 650 miles (~20-30 hours) on the car.

I have an appointment for a quotation and a possible upgrade. I'll let you guys know how much it'll cost and what my decision will be. There is a thread here on the upgrade with Focal speakers but I don't want to take the plunge in taking apart a brand new car. Mt previous car was a Volvo XC 60 with Harmon Kardon speakers and I greatly enjoyed the sound quality given the location of the subwoofer just below the center windshield.

I'd be interested in the quote you get.

I got a quote to instal Morel Ultra 602 separates in the front plus a JL Audio vx400/41 4ch DSP amp (4 x 75W) and all needed misc parts for $2800 before tax. That includes 8 hours of labor ($960), and it would leave the rear seat and dashboard center channel speakers as-is but turned down in volume.

This maybe possible for small improvements but the system is so bad i almost do not want to listen to music.
I tried today to see if it is even in Stereo, it sounds like mono to me. Could it be they used the wrong polarity in the speakers. That word explain a lot of the phase is not correct. Can anyone please check if there is an actual good stereo coming out?

Yes, the stock sound of the ID.4 does not reproduce music well. I understand what you mean about its flat, cardboard-like sound.

That said, a number of people have found that you can improve the sound significantly by just replacing the speakers, as documented here: Upgrade VW ID.4 sound system

In my own experience, the ID.4 went from the worst music reproduction of any car I have owned to the best by simply replacing the speakers.

The nice thing is that the car is super quiet when windows are closed even at 75mph

My understanding ist that this link also replaces the amplifier. U mentions only speakers.
With speakers only i estimate a shop would do it for about $500.
Is that about right

Both speakers only and a full system with speakers and amp are discussed at Upgrade VW ID.4 sound system. Please read the full discussion and reply there with any questions.
