Yesterday the binnacle was completely dead and after some reboots it came back with drive system errors and ACC errors that finally cleared.

Today the mother of all dangerous things happened. The steering wheel was clicking uncontrollably like I was setting speed on the left side and it started to set speed and increment on its own. Had my wife who doesn’t use this system been driving the car would run away with her.

Going to have it towed to VW but this may be the straw that breaks the camels back. I have been patient through all of the bugs and problems with this car, but my families safety precludes being an alpha / beta tester for VW.

Did stepping on the brake overpower this event?

I well empathize with your concern! In my Audi allroad I had a somewhat similar sudden loss of steering wheel control. Very unnerving. The temporary workaround was, at a stop, to turn the wheel fully lock to lock a couple times which reset it. Finally diagnosed as a fault in the electric power steering and the rack itself was replaced.

All the best in your own service adventure.
