The Goodwood is docking in Baltimore in the wee hours. Coincidence?
I'm not a seasoned VW pre-orderer, but he was talking about production in Dec/Jan. So it seems like that would probably be a coincidence? Especially if I still can technically change my reservation, I'd hope they haven't already shipped a whole bunch which may not match final configuration.

Edited to add: Though I guess if the configuration editor tells me certain colors are out of stock, maybe they have produced all FEs. I'm happy to take ownership tomorrow or next year, as long as they've resolved some of the issues that have been going around with ID.3s.

Only 1st Editions are coming in the first few months. There is nothing to change on them. If you change your reservation to a different model, you will get it in 2nd or 3rd quarter.

Yeah, I mainly had in mind that color would be a potential switch, but they may have already locked that in based on reservations in September. I edited my comment above to reflect that. Anyway, I guess we'll see.

Just received a call from my local VW dealer who told me tomorrow I should receive an email to finalize configuration and hand over another $400 for my First Edition.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out, and if this turns out to be true, it looks like things are starting to move forward.
Curious to know which state you are in to get a perspective on which states are getting first deliveries ?

I received the same heads-up from my local EV Specialist, so we will see what the day holds.

I'm hoping it's the latter, if only to reflect some forward movement with the process. I live in Virginia which, with the exception of the DC suburbs, has not shown EVs much love. My sense is that other more efficiency-friendly states will see their deliveries occur much sooner. Time will tell. My local dealer has confirmed that I am his sole order, which is disappointing on a number of levels, not the least of which being his service team's exposure to any potential problems that may crop up.

That definitely sounds unfortunate (like you said, for multiple reasons). I haven't asked that of mine, though I've inferred I'm not the only one. I guess I should also hope that an area the size of DFW will have more interested buyers than just one, or even just one per dealership. It'll be interesting to be an early adopter, either way.

When I spoke with my dealership, they disclosed they had 29 Pre-Orders & that I was 2nd on the list.

The ID.4 will be my third EV since 2012, having leased a Nissan Leaf and BMW i3 previously. In both examples the vehicles were flawless but the dealers were inept, indifferent, or hostile depending upon the mood of the day. I would characterize both as having been dragged to the party kicking and screaming all the way. So far my VW dealer has at least feigned excitement and that's a marked improvement over my experiences to date, so I'm going with it. Ultimately, I am hopeful it won't be a party of one.
