ordered August 19th. went to Step 3 ( order locked) in about 2 weeks. saw timeline go from Nov-Dec to Oct-Nov to finalize at Dec-Jan about 3 weeks ago. Then last week I log in and see the timeline move to Step 4. Now reading step 4 closely it says:

“Production on your ID.4 is complete. Your vehicle has started its journey across the Atlantic and is making its way to you.”

which seems to confirm the vehicle is on a cargo ship already and sailing to a U.S. port. So I read the forums and find the ships VW uses at the port of Emden, Germany. Which I will attach. By process of elimination, the only ship headin to Davisville RI is Siem Confucius. Which will arrive 11/13. An 11 day journey.

if that’s the case the vehicle left port 11/2 which coincides with the step change. and if that holds true I’m looking at an 11/20-23 delivery to my NJ dealer. Three month wait was not bad at all considering the state of the planet today.

@CeescoKid Nice! What trim did you get? RWD/AWD? Pro S? Gradient? I also ordered on 8/19 (for northern NJ delivery), locked on 8/27, and currently have a Dec/Jan timeline. But I'm in order status 15-1 (since 10/28) so I don't think they have built mine yet. Can't wait!

Pro S Statement. Blue RWD.
Now it’s a guess I’m making but I think it’s a good probability. Another vessel is incoming. The Bishu Highway. See if it coincides with your date change. Check ship tracking sites to follow the vessel.

Very close to the end of the year....are people who ordered one will be satisfied with 2021 model that is almost one year old in 2022 .
This something that owners should think about it.
I’m leasing. No need to worry. Also vehicles get cost increases during their production lifecycle. 22s will cost more. If the world climate was much different and supply chains were normal I’d say yea good to ask. But again not worried. 22 is not going to be much different at all. All I really care about is the software upgrades which will improve the vehicle each iteration. Already version 3.0 software update allows for 135Kw charging vs 125 on Ver 2.3.
Do you want to wait another 6 mo. Me personally no. I’m good.

From what I understand, I don't think there will be many changes between 2021 and 2022. I need a car asap, and I'll probably end up paying more in car rentals if I end up waiting longer for a 2022.

Agreed. Again some may have the luxury or patience to wait. I waited and want to move on and finish the process.

Less than 2 years ago when I come to US , i bought 2006 Buick lacrosse with 3.8 engine....for 1500 dollars with very bad seals all over the engine....oil...eng coolant...transmission seals and other things...
Invested another 600 dollars in parts total and day and half of my time to fix it like new looking engine and transmission...and used this car for quite some time before I had hands on ID4.
Still have this car and i could easily sell it for 5k in shape it is now.
Long time rental is never substitute for cheap car.
Especially for people who have ability to fix old car and enjoy low cost transportation.
Now I'm back to my Buick because I have sold my ID4 ( not my personal choice, job related)
And waiting for ID4 AWD and Audi Q4 50.

I hope the 2002 Honda I'm driving now finds an owner with your skills and time.:)

Give VW a call to find out what the issue is. I did, there was nothing much for them to say other than it was on schedule. It’s worth a call to see why such a long wait. I ordered Aug 19. A Pro S RWD and we got the update that it’s on it way to the US about two weeks ago. I figure about 3.5 month wait total when delivered.

Also here in NJ the 5000.00 state rebate plan ran out of money. Ready for this. The program had enough money for nine weeks, that’s it, NINE weeks. such a narrow window of opportunity. The program was funded with 30 million. Doing the math that’s about 6,000 vehicles.
Again it doesn’t bother me it’s a 21 being so close to end of year. I’m leasing and with the 7500. Fed rebate and a 500.00 first responder rebate plus if I score a bit of a discount off the vehicle I’d be very happy.

I have been waiting 11 months. Portal said June when I reserved. I have called them. They had no info about why it keeps getting moved out another month or 2 every time the portal date is within a month or 2. It was not worth the call, I just have to sit and wonder when it might be, but I can't believe the Portal any longer.

Jeez. There is the Bible story about Job. 11 months IMO is WAAY too long. If they bump my arrival date more than a month I’m gone. New models will be out there next year and if VW treats customers like this they don’t deserve the sales, because it shows their future behavior for warranty work or owner service won’t be stellar, either. VW should have been on the horn talking with you and making it right.

In fact I’m about ready to begin a backup hunt for an alternative purchase. My experience already with VW CS has ticked me off and there are no reports of “good” service I have seen. Not much to recommend.

I wonder if it might be location specific. For instance, is VW prioritizing certain areas, maybe where there is a recharge infrastructure already there or planned?

Maybe they are prioritizing current VW owners?

There has to be some logic behind what they are doing.

SunWizard, where are you located? CeescoKid I believe is in NJ. I am in NC.

Whatever the cause or hidden corporate rationale, its unacceptable behavior to treat any customer like that.

I am in NJ and also ordered on Aug 19 like CeescoKid but I'm still at 15-1, so there is some luck involved. Sounds like SunWizard really got unlucky and it really seems unfair. I'm regretting canceling my Kia EV6 first edition reservation (but not sure I'd want to spend that much money. I'm thinking about putting an order for the new Nissan just in case.
