I left my car in the garage for a couple of days at 63% charge and did raise it on my lift a couple of times to install my new torklift hitch, but never got in the car other than open the trunk to get to a couple of the bumper cover screws.

After I was done, I was going to top the car off to 80% charge using my L2 garage charger as I was planning on multiple days of errands, however, I kept getting a red light charging error after about 2 mins of a white light. No error lights on the charger and the display at the steering wheel.

Please follow the charging station instructions, or use another charging unit.

Took the car for a 3 mile spin, I rebooted the charger, even updated the firmware, same result. Let the car sit overnight tried again, same error. Ok, so I decided to drive over to EA and try some level 3 charging, charged the car to 70% and no issues. Drove back home and plugged it into the L2 charger and the car charged just fine.

So I am curious if the hiccup is unique or if somebody else has experienced this strange behavior as well.

Does your EVSE have delayed charging/timed charging? I programmed my unit do not allow charging until 9:00 pm so when I plug in, the car will not charge until off-peak hours (I have no luck with the programming in the car). When I plug in, the light is white and will charge no problem, however, if I am ever in my garage (with my key) after I first plug in but before it starts charging; the presence of the key causes the car to unlock and then the light turns red and will not charge. Unplugging and re-plugging the connector fixes the issue but just need to be careful not to wake the car before it starts charging.

Sorry to hear it. What brand and model of charger? Good to know that since we could look for others with the same charger, incase there are certain models that have a pattern of hiccup with the ID.4.

No timing restrictions or locations set.

Grizzl-e smart charger. Nema6-50 but that shouldn’t matter.

When charging at home with my Mustart level 2. When I plug-in the external light indicator on the car will start at white then turn to solid green (I thought it should be pulsing green) while charging it will charge at 80% at a constant +/-40 amps. After it's done charging at the 80% mark car-net will show it has stop charging but the light still stays in green. Then I have to disarm the car via my remote key before it allows me release the charger. Just want to know if this is normal regarding how the light indicator shows.

You have eliminated problem on the EV when tried EA...so your issue was with EVSE.
But it worked after I got back from EA. So some sort of strange race condition. This is smart charger so I can see the logs on the charger and it didn't have any errors. After coming back from EA, I simply plugged into my charger at home (no reboot at all) and it worked fine. Definitely a weird issue, but the only thing that didn't get rebooted was the car.

We have all had computers, phones, etc do strange stuff and a reboot took care of them. Probably something along those lines.

I have one half of what you just described. I plugged into a L2 Chargepoint charger at work and walked away, not thinking much of anything. When I was getting ready to leave work, the charge port showed red. I thought it was just an EVSE error and since I had plenty of charge to get home, I just unplugged and hit the road. When I got home, I plugged into my Grizzl-E. The white LED flashed for about a minute then turned red. The ID Light bar went green but only halfway across the screen and stayed solid, even after the red LED at the charge port. I plugged in the OEM L1 charger and that seems to charge OK, but unplugging the L1 and going back to the L2 did not fix anything. I plan on going to an EA DCFC station and testing that, and seeing if I can replicate what you just reported.

update: I’m at the EA DCFC station now. When I plugged in the ID Light came on half way, just like at home. But the charger fired up and the car is charging now. It’s slow for my SoC (50 something kW at 60%) but it’s charging.

update 2: DCFC charged to 70% SoC with no problem. I checked some references online for the charging curve, and 50-ish kW at 60% SoC when I started out is normal. However, when I got home my Grizzl-E still gave me a red LED. :(

Actually, I am not sure that is really true, doesn't DCFC use the lower 2 pins to deliver the power, not all of the pins in the J1772 connector. In any case, I really believe it is something strange condition in the car software. We all know how good VW is at writing software, everyday there are several postings here about this or that. The fact is that after the DCFC session, the J1772 charging worked fine WITHOUT a change to my home charger.

True but using fast DC charger will not fix problem using L2 if there is problem.
So problem is still on EVSE indicating no connection.....not plugged all the way.....no communication between EVSE and EV......
So putting blame always on VW ID4 is not right.
I have personally experienced problems....that after some checking and logging over obd2 where user errors....like not pushing J1772 adapter all the way in.

Oh believe me, I have plugged and unplugged the connector several times, making sure it is fully seated. This issue only showed up 1 time. Many times before and now after this one incident, the charger has always worked. The plug was fully seated, but somehow the car and charger didn't get along. Who knows, perhaps Gremlins. It was just a weird situation.

Is your Grizzl-e a smart or dumb version. If smart, you can look at the logs online at acharger.ca (after you register it). If not smart, perhaps call UnitedCharger and see if they have any hints for you by looking at the light status. (I don't have a dumb version, so I am not sure if it is any different than the smart version).

Do you have way to pull historical data on errors recorded on ID4.
I'm interested in charging port and battery BMS.
So we can get this figured out together.

I have the Hex-Net VagCom, so I suppose I can pull codes. Just got it, haven't even tried it out yet. Anything in particular you are looking for, i.e module or just the generic error codes.

Of the folks I've seen on here complaining of home charging issues, it seems a disproportionate number have Grizzl-E chargers... that's just my non-scientific observation. But it may be worth trying another brand of charger...
