I did a u turn and just after going straight the car came almost to a stop and then resumed normal slow velocity. I used B mode. That was kind a surprise behavior. This is a pro s with just 700mi.
It happened at low velocity and caused no problem but was very unexpected.
Just wanted to report it in case other had similar events.

You were applying pressure to the accelerator as you might normally to accelerate (i.e., more than enough to exceed the B mode regen braking), but the car didn't accelerate and instead came to almost a stop?

There have been other reports of this. Some said it happened when they left the dealer after service. I hope everyone is starting a case with Customer Care. 800-822-8987

Ok now that is funny in a way because I also just left the dealer when it happened. Tried the door fix to no avail.did not think that was relevant to mention. Now we have a real mystery. Did the dealer accidently try to make an oil change 😀.

Now i am thinking could it be because the dealer hooks up the diagnostic tool and that leaves the system in a funny state?

Not exactly the same issue - but I have noticed the following :-

When the car is fully charged upto 100%, you put it into B mode, but the car does not behave as it's in B mode (with the regrenative braking) until the battery has "drained some of the power out from it" ! ... It will behave for a while - like it's in D mode. It's like the car is refusing to run in a mode where it has "no-where" to send the excess power generated from the regeneration mode ! I particularly notice it, as I live on a hill, if I go "down" the hill - it is clearly trying to put power into the battery and drives like D mode, but as soon as you turn and go up a hill and "use power", within minutes of driving the car starts to behave "normally" - reflective of the mode that is selected.

But - if you charge the car to anything less than 100% - B mode works without any issue - and none of the above happens !

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

But that makes sense because it has nowhere to but the regen energy as you said yourself. Battery charging is tricky and depends on many factors. Temperature and state if charge are most important. On my little fiat 500e j have a kW readout for power use or regen. Going down or braking can easily charge with 15-50kW and that is a much lighter car. To me what u observe is plain normal and follows laws of nature. Bts. Good observation.

I understand is like that by design. This behavior is actually described in the Owner's Manual under the "Brake Energy Recuperation" section.

By chance were you just leaving the Dealer for a 30 day check or other diagnostics check when that happened? Both times I left the dealer (one month apart) after they ran diagnostics as part of the check, I got an abrupt hesitation in B mode as though I had lifted my foot off the "play pedal" just a few 100 feet away from the dealer's lot as a I accelerated the first time (normal conservative acceleration) at somewhere between 20 and 30 miles per hour. The car slowed for a few seconds then picked back up and drove normally. I don't recall exactly what I did with the pedal during those few seconds but may have let up after the power loss an re-applied pressure again. I have not experienced this in the 2600 miles total I hace driven it except for only those two events leaving the dealer at just about the exact same place in the road. I have chalked it up to some type of calibration of the gyros or something that follows the procedures they run at the dealership.

This was like a 10 day checkup.
I asked them to look in to the door opening issue from inside and that the passenger side mirror did not always recover to correct position.
He mentioned they checked the mirror memory so I assume they used the diagnostic tool but not sure. The slowdown happened also in B mode just after about 50-100m.

Sounds like there is certainly something with "after diagnostic first acceleration" then. Dealer should at least mention to expect that after servicing it. Concerning the door (different topic - I know) my visit Monday was to replace the front passenger latch mechanism - now all doors open from the inside the same way - WIFE TESTED! lol

Had car at dealer again today and no problem with sudden power loss. Service person said this happens when the car is performing a motor calibration which was requested by the technician last time. This time all good. So this is not a bug just something the technician should be more careful about to perform.

Good to know. Many thanks for the added info. Hopefully VW dealers will start warning owners as they leave their service when they perform the motor calibration. Perhaps, like old ICE service, they consider it like the light smell of oil after an oil change when they don't wipe off every bit of oil. Will see what happens on the next service visit at my dealer.
