I've had my ID.4 for three of the best days of my life. A question: if during a drive I turn on adaptive cruise control and then travel assist, is it possible to turn off travel assist and keep adaptive cruise control going? If I turn them both off (say by tapping the brake), can I turn the adaptive cruise control back on without also turning on travel assist?

Press the top right button on the left side of the steering wheel (I'm not in the car to get the exact description) lightly. This will turn off TA, but keep ACC on. If you press this button too hard it will go to the total off for both functions.

jopo's suggestion didn't work for me.

Edit: This didn't work for me either.

What I've been doing up 'till now is pressing the top right button to turn everything off, then pressing the "RES" button to turn ACC back on.

I have trouble with long tap-short tap on the 1mph v. 5 mph CC speed increases. I almost always get 5 mph increments. I also had a hard time differentiating with just the short tap to "brake tap" the CC on the steering wheel. It was being recognized as a long tap and disabling CC. Just a tip to be aware of on the CC 0/I button–YWMV.

Same here. I have tried all sorts of taps on the top right button, but either nothing happens or else everything turns off. So, like you, I turn it all off and then RES the ACC

I have an Euro car. So maybe that works differently(?).
Let say I have used brakes (=ACC/TA goes off) and I want ACC only:
I press Set to activate ACC only.

But when Set is pressed while TA is still on, then pressing Set only sets a different speed for ACC. > TA keeps on.

If I want active both I press TA button or Set+TA.

If TA is on, I can’t turn only TA off and leave ACC on.

Let say I have used brakes (=ACC/TA goes off) and I want ACC only:
I press Set to activate ACC only at current speed, or RES to resume ACC at previous speed.

But when Set is pressed while TA is still on, then pressing Set only sets a different speed for ACC. > TA keeps on.

If I want active both I press TA button or Set+TA.

If TA is on, I can’t turn only TA off and leave ACC on.
A good summation. I've added one thing in blue above.

I find it frustrating, and moderately dangerous, that the RES button is above the TA button. If you press RES the car will accelerate or decelerate to the previous speed, but the TA button is only a "SET" function. So, if you accidentally hit TA instead of RES the car will travel at current speed. Since I use the RES function very frequently, at least a few times a week I'll accidentally hit "TA," then accelerate a bit more and release the accelerator. Immediately the car decelerates to what I unfortunately selected. This invariably happens in traffic, and it's not safe. It's worse since there is almost no differentiation between the TA and RES buttons. That's a lot of words for "be careful, y'all!"

Amen to that. One thing VW could do is make better use of the MODE slider. Right now, all it allows you to do is to switch between adaptive and normal cruise control - something I'm never likely to do. (If conditions aren't safe for adaptive cruise control, why would I set up my ID.4 to barrel down the road at a set speed?) Easier still would be to allow for the TA button on the steering wheel to turn off TA as well as turn it on. But in the meantime, it's not terrible to have to switch off both TA and ACC and then turn just ACC back on (either with SET or RES). Thanks all for your help, much appreciated!

I am having a hard time using CC on my ID.4 because I have to glance down at the buttons and make sure I'm tapping the right one. I'm coming from a Bolt EV, where I can easily operate CC because I can feel the buttons, without activating them, to find the right one. I'd pay $$ to replace all the ID.4 CC buttons with old-fashioned tactile buttons that didn't accidentally activate on a simple glancing swipe from my thumb!

I'm afraid that when we bought our ID.4s, we bought into the idea of relying on haptic touch buttons. I guess they're there for a reason - perhaps they're easier to adjust and program with an OTA? I'm trying to train myself to use these buttons without looking. But, heck, I'm still reaching into the empty air above the central console to put the car into drive!

Also on haptic controls, it could be worse.

I noticed that in one of the YouTube videos and I’m guilty of doing the same thing. Haha

Haptic touch buttons made from a single piece covering multiple buttons and functions are sadly the wave of the future. Seems everyone is doing this now. The new Mercedes EQE is full of this as well.

I must say that I was sceptical about the heptic feedback buttons, but they work prefectly fine on ID. Software 2.3 - they are growing on me.

Does it turn off with over steering the steering wheel?

Do you mean, does Travel Assist turn off if you give the steering wheel a sharp turn right or left? While using Travel Assist, you can still turn the steering wheel a bit -- for example, to pull to the left side of a lane when passing a bicycle. This does not turn off Travel Assist. I've never tested what would happen if you tried a larger turn of the wheel. Certainly, this is not a way I'd want to turn off Travel Assist routinely! But I guess there's a question whether a sharp turn of the wheel would turn off Travel Assist as a safety measure.
