Drove the ID4 for a week, loved it. Then it stopped working and has been in the shop since. Parts are backordered with no timeline. I've submitted paperwork for buy-back/repurchase, was told its 20 business days with no expediting possible. I also filed claim under my state's lemon law. Pretty sure I'll run up against those dates...

Some people have had some luck with contacting the CEO of VW NA in terms of getting a priority on fixes. Search the board for that or there are websites that list their email addresses.

Apparently its a problem with one of the cells in the battery.
Wow. I'd very curious how this is repaired and how long it takes.

Li-ion aren't perfect and there will be the very tiny percent that will have a bad cell (that doesn't burst into flames). I'd like to know if they have to replace the entire battery or remove the battery module with the bad cell.

There was a Dutchy with the same issue. There the cell got replaced. New cell needed to be put into some calibration machine before mounting it in the pack. Think it took them a week to get the part and after that 2 days to get back on the road.

Some pictures of the repair here: https://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/view_message/69015598

Wow, that looks... interesting. In one way I am kinda glad that there is a way to fix battery cells only (so a few bad cells may not need a new $27000 battery), in another way also worried how prevalent this issue is and whether this can be done in the states (whether they couldn't or they won't).

Apparently they have the battery part but there's mysterious other parts that are required by VW to be replaced as well, and those are on backorder. The electrical fail seems to be an issue, not just isolated to one or two cars. I wonder what leverage ID4 owners have? Refusing to pay monthly installments?

A loaner for sure. I'd push for a buyback or replacement given the timeframe. Ask for a new ID.4... they can sell the old car after the battery cell replacement so it's not horrible for them.

You can get compensation for that as well as the fuel cost for the loaner.

I had electrical problems with mine and ran into the same issue with parts and timeframe to install. All together it took right at 8 weeks to get the parts need and to fix those problems. we started the buy back process just in case they could not get the parts or repairs due to the labor shortage and no one wanting to work. Eventually the car was repaired and runs perfectly. Our dealer was great with supplying a rental car, paying for all gas we used and even supplied a 100,000 mile warranty on the car for us. We love the car and are glad they could finish the repairs.
