For those of you who are in CA, wondering if you can share your experiences with Tax Credits / Rebates.

I know there is a $7500 Federal Tax Credit and I believe in CA there is a $2000 rebate. Are there any others? I am planning to buy.

I am in CA and on the reservation process with VW. You can get the $7500 from the feds. The $2k funds from CVRP is exhausted and they have a waitlist pending future funding. What does the rebate waitlist mean to me? you can get a $1,500 CA Clean Fuel rebate at the dealership off sale. there are also credits for low income but, really if you are that poor to qualify for that rebate you are not looking to buy a 40k+ car. depending on your electric company you might be able to get $1000 for the installation of a level2 charger.

FYI- the $2,000 CVRP rebate that you’re referring to has run out of funding for 2021. So that’s out 🙁

if they are really funded by cap and trade then why did they run out when California is like the 4th largest economy in the world? it's just funny money.
CARB has a set budget every year, and so far in 2021, demand for EVs has been much higher than expected. That’s why they ran out. This is an easy subject to investigate. And FWIW, CARB is looking into securing more funding from the ‘4th largest economy in the world’. Maybe they’ll get it, maybe they won’t. If not, folks have to wait until next year.

So at the beginning of this year when I reserved my FE, these are the credits/rebates I applied and was anticipating here in SoCal:

$7,500 - Fed tax credit
$1,500 - CA Clean Fuel Reward
$5,000 - Clean Vehicle Assistance Program
$4,500 - Clean Vehicle Rebate Program

By mid March, the 5k CVAP (funded by CARB) ran out of funds while my application was a few days away from getting reviewed/approved. By mid April, the 4.5k (2k only if income does not meet threshold) CVRP program ran out of funds (also funded by CARB). However, I was able to get approval for the CVRP at the very last days of the program running out of funds. So out of the 4 above, I only missed on the 5k CVAP program. Would’ve been a sweet deal if I got all but can’t complain. I do know that I will be able to get the full 7.5k tax credit since I did some tax planning last year and this year in anticipation of this.

FYI, there’s a big uncertainty on CARB providing additional funding for the CVRP and CVAP due to pending legislation/budget. From what I read, the funds will be there but the income limits will be a lot restrictive compared to before.

The governor’s May budget revise, released this past Friday, May 13th, includes $400M replenishment of the CVRP rebate program. Negotiations with the legislature take place over the next month so we have to wait until June 14th for the final budget, but this item is expected to survive negotiations.

I would not expect the qualifying income levels to change for the $2K rebate, although they make it clear in the website FAQ that’s possible. In any event, those income limits are pretty high for the $2K rebate so even a substantial change isn’t likely to DQ the majority of us. Get your applications in now to be placed on the waitlist; as it is, applications submitted in May won’t be reviewed until October per the website.

And if you’re applying for the higher Rebate Now $5K rebate under this program, which has much stricter qualifying income limits, you have until the end of tax day (Monday, May 17th) to submit and still use 2019 income. Starting May 18th, they will verify 2020 income as part of application review.

Are those of us living in Pasadena get a $500 rebate from the city for buying an electric car and buying from a Pasadena dealership, if we went through Pasadena VW.

Residen of the San Joaquin Valley get another $3000 rebate through the Drice Clean program, which is still currently fully funded: Drive Clean in the San Joaquin | Rebate

Also: Pasadena Water & Power offers rebates up to $600 for home chargers (you get the max amount for a smart charger). Check your own hometown utility company for similar offers.

And finally, the feds offer a rebate of 30% of a home charger cost as well as 30% of the cost of installation.
