Gas engines lose efficiency in cold weather as well. There is no free lunch. Engine and transmission friction increases in cold temperatures due to cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids. For short trips ICE doesn’t get up to optimal temps for efficiency. I have been trading in EVs every year since 2017 due to generous gov’t EV tax incentives. Soon I will be trading in a Hyundai Ioniq 5 for a Lightning Pro due to incentives from gov’t and manufacturer. Whether a government pays you to drive EV’s or taxes you to not drive them, what’s the difference? When you drive ICE in the US do you not pay a gas tax? When you drive an EV in US don’t most states provide rebates as incentives? I am sure that VAT tax is on ICE vehicles that have an EV counterpart, is it on trucks or vans? I will gladly lose up to 20% efficiency in cold weather compared to ICE, to get all the benefits of an EV. Most drivers of EV’s are very happy because they are more efficient, cost less to operate, dependable, and just more fun 🤩 to drive. Incentives are just the icing 🧁 on the cake.
Last week Connecticut Cheapr rebates combined with Tesla’s $7500 credit on a TM3 RWD brought some eligible buyers down to $35k. In 2023 an TM3 RWD and some ID4s will get a $3750 EV tax incentive and up to $4250 in CT rebates for those eligible.
