I know you are making fun of it, but it's a feature. The steering wheel is supposed to eventually fall off on its own. The problem in this case is that FSD is not yet feature complete. Somehow this feature was activated too early. Apparently, it's a bug.

There has been cases by various different manufacturers where flex joint on steering shaft has completely failed or not seated or tighten properly....but they just like Tesla in the news. But Tesla should do better job with this type of issues...instead of hiding and deleting conversations.

That is true. I still would never buy Tesla due to 1. Elon, 2. Poor build quality, 3. Poor (spartan) interior design. 4. Lack of D mode.

2. Poor build quality. This is a canard. Not true. I have one in my garage.
3. Poor (spartan) interior design. The interior is not luxury but much more premium than the Pro S with Gradient ID.4 that I have sitting next to the Model Y in my garage. Neither have luxury interior, but the ID.4 has hard plastics everywhere, where the Model Y has soft surfaces. So, spartan yes, poor no.
4. Lack of D mode. Valid, but a non-issue on road trips, as the auto pilot feature (similar to the ID.4 Travel Assist) takes care of it. Both systems can stay in the lane well enough so that the accelerator pedal doesn’t need to be used. The Model Y auto pilot (free feature) is topography aware, so it slows down on sharp curves. The ID.4 barrels through as though it were a straight line, so you have to tap the brake on the ID.4 when it’s on Travel Assist and goes over a sharp curve, which cancels Travel Assist.

Traveling in the ID.4 on road trips is a total letdown. It takes hours longer due to the shorter range, lower charging curve, and the scarce CCS DCFC Infrastrucutre. That’s a redeeming feature for the Model Y, which is so much better on long road trips.

If you only use the EV in the city, and if you don’t have a dog that rides with you, the ID.4 is a better choice.

I think there are still Tesla cars that make it out into the wild with quality issues. Note: VW also has some quality issues too - as do all manufacturers. Some of the Tesla issues stem from Fremont that is just catching up to the other (more recent) factories like Austin where there is better QC equipment now. My Austin Model Y is flawless...... but due to the history we are conditioned that all Tesla cars are going to be "bad quality". Let's not forget that VW really isn't ahead of Tesla here according to the data:

(note: I'm a sucker for punishment as I've had VWs, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo and now a Tesla - all have been pretty much issue free aside from 12V battery issues across multiple brands)

Spartan design is just a design choice. Having now spent some time in a Tesla, they have thought about what you need and the flow of how you do it. I'd also add that VW is lookin like they are going spartan too with the initial shots of the ID.7.

Lack of D mode? Not quite true. With the one pedal driving Tesla implementation you just don't lift your foot as much and you will effectively coast...... it's personal preference and you hear of people screaming for one pedal driving.

I take JD Powers with a grain (more like a ton) of salt, but if we only included the EVs of these makers or they would have a much lower reliability rating too. Comparing predominantly ICE manufacturers to purely EV companies is comparing technologies rather than makers.

OK, valid but that hardly paints the ID.4 in a great light against the Model 3 or Y - where the assertion above was that Tesla is much lower quality.

It's important to point out that this is a comparison for 2021 models. First series models will always be less reliable.
Also when it comes to build quality and Tesla I'm more concerned about structural integrity 5 years down the road, that's where my expectations of ID4's better build would be coming through. For short term ownership, MY is probably a better deal (if you look beyond the Tesla guy crap).

Comparing 2013 Model S to a 2018 Model 3 is a bit of a stretch. I had a friend who worked on some of the Tesla models' mechanics (won't get into specifics). I was very surprised about his absolute lack of enthusiasm about Tesla's quality then. Not too surprised anymore.

1) There were plenty of compromises with Model 3 in the quality department. I rolled my eyes about the whining on Model 3 panel gaps until I sat in one
2) The issue is if it needs repair it sounds like a very pricey one and I've never seen anybody describe a positive experience with the expediency with which their Tesla repairs were delivered.

The actual maintenance cost of ICE vehicles end up being lower than of Tesla given the extreme repair costs:

There are many American companies also found at fault and they paid for mistakes.
Now regarding chassis quality of Tesla vehicles.
I have rental 2023 Tesla Model Y long range.
And i find no flaws regarding fit and finish....besides not good insulation for highway speeds....
To compare apples to apples.... you guys should compare aluminum chassis vs aluminum chassis....some small blemishes about paint quality and plastic trimming alignment is not something that makes vehicles less durable or safe to drive.
Getting NVH with type of materials that Tesla is using is not easy thing....especially when you integrate big aluminum castings that do provide good crash rating, but easy to repair after collision will be sacrificed.

I think it has to do with a frameless door that makes it sound different. I find the ID4 louder at high speed probably due to cheaper tires and the Y performance having a sharper super charger sounding whine noise and no PWS.
