I recently bought a teslatap mini 40 amp from teslatap online store. When I plugged it into tesla silver 240 v evse at Hilton hotel it did not charge my new id.4 pro s awd car and the light on plug inlet on car turned from white to red and i got error message on id cockpit that no charger detected! When I called Teslatap support they asked me if i had waited atleast 30 seconds prior to plugging it in and I told them i did then they blamed the tesla evse indicating although its label indicates 240 v it is indeed 270v and that wont work with teslatap when I indicated that i verified it was indeed 240 v they then blamed my id.4 as defective I told them vw had checked the car and there is nothing wrong with the car and I had successfully charged it via J1772 they said it is not possible for their teslatap to be defective! After I filled out return form online I have not yet received a return authorization number from them! I would advise caution when purchasing this product since it is more expensive than other adapters available on Amazon and although many youtube videos claim it is of high quality it has failed to work for me! I will let you know if they send me a return authorization number and refund my money!

I have used TeslaTap Mini before with other vehicles, and it has performed flawlessly while destination charging at hotels.
Next chance I get when traveling, I will try it with my ID4.

Also, FYI TeslaTap Mini 40 amp is undersized for the ID4, since the vehicle is capable of taking a charge up to 48amps or more if the Tesla Destination Charger can handle it. I personally wouldn't chance it with the 40 amp version.
The correct size TeslaTap Mini for the ID4 is at least 60 amp, if not the 80 amp version. Don't know if this might have anything to do with the issue you had with it not working.

Perhaps others here have used the TeslaTap Mini with their ID4?

The Tesla destination charger needs to be set to Legacy mode to work on all vehicles. It may have been set to work on Tesla only. Probably not a TeslaTap issue.

Have you only tried it at a single destination charger? I would try a few more, and even a Tesla wall connector installed at someone's home to verify. They come set to Legacy out of the box.

I've used my 40A Lectron adapter at 48A a hundred times - it does not get any warmer to the touch than when it runs at 40A. Their customer service has also signed off on its usage at 48A, as it's not a big jump like 40-->60A would be.

I don't doubt that your 40 amp adapter works great with the Tesla Destination Chargers you've used.

However, there are posts on this forum where they say that their 40 amp Tesla adapter got quite warm during charging their ID4.

I personally like to sleep peacefully when I'm traveling, so I bought the higher rated adapter for peace of mind.

What light color was on the Tesla charger before attaching adapter.....and what was the color of led on charger once you attached adapter after 1 minute and not being plugged to ID4?
Have you initiated power to the extension cord by clicking on the Tesla male plug?

I read that the rating the stamp on the product is not the continuous rating... it's actually 80%. Even TeslaTap supposedly has a fine print somewhere saying what they stamp on the adapter is not the continuous load... I bought the 50A thinking it was continuous but was corrected by others later...

(Update: Just visited the TeslaTap 50 site [TeslaTap] and it states that the stamped value for TeslaTap is the continuous rating).

BTW, it's too bad that VW does not offer the ability to adjust the onboard charger to allow less amps - like Tesla.

Is it advisable to use Teslatap 50 AMP high power instead of Teslatap mini 60 amp? Does anyone have experience?
