Has anyone tried the TeslaTap Mini, Tesla to J-1772 Adapter-80 AMP for the Id.4?

Thanks...seems like a logical thing to buy, given that Tesla's done a pretty good job spreading their chargers out...
The "Tesla" chargers you can use with the ID.4 are the slow-charge Destination ones (AC). The Tesla controlled Destination chargers in my area are not well spread out (isolated to the main highway).

Thank you! Where I live they're all over the place, so it'd be useful to have access to them.
ChargePoint is everywhere for me. I can find free (or cheap) charging at Whole Foods, city parks, SunRail stations, city hall, hotel parking lots, Disney parks, etc.

I can't justify buying a $180 adapter for the handful of chargers I will encounter.

The garage I use in nyc has a Tesla charger...I charge for free off of our solar panels at my house in the country, drive into the city, and can use the Tesla charger for the trip back...

'Slow' is a relative term. Many destination chargers are rated at 16Kw and lots of them are free too - Since the max the ID.4 can deal with is 11Kw, that means that short of CCS charging, the destination chargers are recharging the car as fast as it can be

I just ordered one because in our road trip planning, we keep coming across hotels that have free Tesla destination charging... they're surprisingly expensive so I hope we get some good use out of it!

Tesla Tap doesn't make any smaller than 50 amps. The 40 amp ones are made by another company and the components are of less quality than the real thing - Especially the Tesla connector, which is a work of art on a genuine Tesla Tap

The difference in price is only about $40 and I figured that most times I'd be using it (other than at motels) would be to get enough range to get me to the next CCS charger, I would want the full 11Kw so I wouldn't be waiting any longer than absolutely necessary. Even at 50 amps, if you needed 30 miles of range, it's going to take nearly an hour. If the battery is really low and you're staying in a motel, it would be nice to get a complete 100% charge overnight before you left in the morning, so the extra 10 amps could come in handy there too. In my case, $40 well spent

Yes, definitely get the 60 - the car can draw 48amps and can overwhelm the 40. I actually ordered the 80 because our next EV may have even higher current draw…

Interesting that Tesla is persevering with their proprietary connector in the US. Elsewhere Tesla cars have the same CCS port as every other EV. Owners of the early Tesla cars with the port for the proprietary connector must use a (very expensive) adapter or pay to have their car retrofitted with a CCS port.

I got the TeslaTap Mini 60 for our road trips this summer and was glad I did. Many hotels on our routes had Tesla destination chargers but no CCS, so being able to include them gave us many more options for planning our drives.

Another vote for TeslaTap Mini 60 AMP. Works perfectly with my Tesla Wall Connector and my Tesla Mobile Connector. Tesla makes some of the best constructed and performing EV chargers. As previous posts have stated: "why not have access to more chargers." If you plan on road tripping the ID 4 its mandatory IMHO. The mini is also well constructed and lives up to its name....MINI. I get charging speeds of 38-42MPH with this setup.

Where did you acquire yours? I don't like buying from non-secure websites. Thanks.

I've used my Tesla Tap 80 amp twice and found it totally easy to use. Completely expands your charging possibilities, and in nyc, where it's hard to find level 2 chargers, it's pretty essential since so many garages have Tesla chargers.

All genuine Tesla Tap products are made by a small company in Goleta California, called Small Parts CNC. I ordered the 50 amp 'regular' unit (not the Mini) from Amazon ($200) and ended up with two of them and when I requested a return authorization, I ended up talking to Terry at Small Parts. They specialize in CNC machining all sorts of small RC parts and they got the contract to build the Tesla Taps - If you look at the current Tesla Tap products on Amazon, they ship from Small Parts CNC

They make the Mini versions 100% in house and for the 'regular' corded ones, they make the Tesla end and buy commercial J-1772 connectors and then assemble the two with a short piece of cable. He said they have a computerized CNC machine running 24/7 making the parts and their connectors are a thing of beauty. When you buy the off brand 40 amp units, you don't get a connector like that
