Test drive (from a non "gearhead" perspective)

Hello all,

Been hawking this forum for a while but decided to post after taking a test drive today in NJ to share my, and my wife's, experience with the car as non-gearheads. (We have an AWD reserved fyi)

I drive a toyota highlander and my wife drives a Volvo S60. We are practical people and aren't looking to go 0-60 in 3 seconds however can appreciate the "cool things" a car has to offer.... And this car had plenty!

Her first time driving an EV and my second (after driving a Tesla model S). She absolutely loved the acceleration and smoothness of an EV (with no gears to switch of course). Her S60 definitely has some "pep" but thought this RWD ID4 had more. I'm sure the AWD will be significantly quicker as well. I felt the same in comparison to my highlander. In comparison to the model S it definitely isn't as quick but for someone like me.... I don't care - it was quick enough! Can get you to merge on a highway of cars going 65mph with NO problem at all.

The only negative of this vehicle was, actually, upon opening the doors for the first time. That plastic housing on the interior of the doors that contains the window buttons and that good stuff just feels incredibly cheap and like it's gonna crack if you close the door in freezing weather. Apart from that piece the rest or the interior looked really good!

The car is super roomy and comfortable. I am 6'4" and had no issues at all setting up the driver seat in a comfortable position. Even after setting the seat for myself, I sat down in the back seat behind the driver's seat and was pleasantly surprised at the room. The seats themselves were comfortable. The touch screen was completely fine and responsive for us (I've been reading lots of lag issues on this forum). The trunk space was pretty good. The car looks very attractive on the outside (nicer than any model Y or 3 for sure) and whether you pick blue or white - both look great! It was also pretty cool to put our phones on the wireless charger and get a little boost for our trip home (I'm sure incredibly convenient when it's your daily driver). Cup holders were nice sizes. The ability to drive either on D or B seems like a great idea for traditional ICE drivers.

So bottom line - if VW is looking to attract just "Regular Joe ICE owners" like me and my wife... They are gonna succeed. That car is awesome! Can't wait for our AWD to be ready!

Thanks @ByebyeGasStations for your "Regular Joe ICE owners" opinions, I resemble that remark also and find all these comments really helpful.

On the wireless charging - were you able to fit both your phone and your spouse's in the wireless charger and have them both charge at the same time?

Pure speculation on my part, but my understanding of Wireless Charging is that there needs to be a separate inductive coil for each device. So I would think no.

Thanks for the read and nice comments! That's a great question but unfortunately no... Only 1 at a time could fit. I guess can't have everything (yet) hah. But from a practical perspective - this car will be used as a Monday - Friday daily commuter, so about 90 percent of the time will only have 1 phone/person anyway. One day every passenger will have a wireless charger available I'm sure!

Not enough room in there for two phones at the same time. Well, you could in theory have one on top of the other, but I doubt that would work.

My wife's phone also charges, and she has a more substantial case.
