Note that Equinox EV is much bigger than the ICE Equinox. Equinox EV and Blazer EV are only a couple inches different width and length. I was pondering about Equinox EV but no more.

Nice! I hadn't yet compared dimensions. Blazer and Equinox EVs are closer in size than I thought. I was figuring the weight of the Equinox would be lighter than the ID.4 but maybe not. Headroom in the Bolt EV is good and I'm guessing battery height is lower with the Ultium for interior height but, just a guess on cell orientation.

This is good info. Thanks.

From the specs, the Equinox looks like it’ll compete pretty well with the specs of the ID.4. However, I think it’ll be surprising if the Equinox is available in any kind of significant quantities even a year from now. It’ll more likely be 2024-2025. Even if the first units start rolling off the line on schedule in the middle of this year, no one will be able to go to a dealer and drive off the lot with one anytime soon, so in my mind, it’s a bit of a moot point to talk about the Equinox EV (or the Blazer EV) as a real-world alternative to an ID.4 yet for people looking to easily buy something relatively soon-ish (meaning in the next year or so).

Even though not everyone might be able to find the exact ID.4 trim and color they want, ID.4s are at least available now for someone willing to do some legwork contacting dealers.

That's not what I'm seeing. Not all trims will be available in '23 but all will be in 2024. I want an awd and I think one will be available next fall. As long as I get the awd by next winter I'm fine with it. I have an EV for now.

I did run across something interesting. GM is introducing the EUV, Equinox and Blazer EVs in Brazil '24-'25. GM will have two battery plants going in N America in '24 with two more building.

Fingers crossed that it works out for them, and for your plans. I'm always a bit wary when a company like GM states aggressive production and delivery timelines for a new EV on a new EV platform (Ultium) for which they haven't delivered any vehicles in volume yet. The production ramp is often steeper than they expect, and problems often occur. Just sayin'. But maybe they can execute according to plan. We'll see what 2023 brings. I'll be interested also to see reviews of the driving characteristics of these cars after people can actually start buying them.

After my 2018 Chevy Volt experience, I would certainly be very interested in the car if I was in the market.
The Volt was great- better than I expected. I’ve never bought a US car before and it was very reliable and great to drive.
I mostly needed some more room (for grandkids) and found all electric would work fine for me after the Volt experiment.

GM certainly has a better record on their PHEVs and BEVs than VW or Tesla as far as target dates in the US (he says as he waits for a VW ordered in 2021). The Ultium Hummer and Lyrica are out, though low numbers. The Lyrica was accelerated. The first battery plant was delayed 6 mos due to Covid/training, which affects all to some degree.

But we will find out. So far, so good.

Yeah, the VW reservation system does not have a good track record wrt to fairness or accurate timelines, and orders made there have been all over the place, which might be why they're retiring it on Jan 4.

On the other hand, VW did start production at the Chattanooga plant earlier than originally announced and seems to have ramped up production pretty quickly, and ID.4s of certain trims and colors seem to be available.

Not sure what trim/color you're still waiting for or where you're located, but if I'd ordered in 2021 and was still waiting for that order, I probably would have thrown in the towel by now and would be looking for a car off the lot unless there was some absolute dealbreaker feature that I thought was worth waiting for. Buying any EV these days often seems to be an exercise in frustration, to say the least. You must be much more patient than I am! Good luck.

The 2021 ID.4 I ordered was rolled to a 2022 with a commensurate price increase. But now it's ridiculous. Don't have a lot of choices until the Equinox and Blazer awd roll out and the awd is the point. I have several EVs so I'm good for now. VW wants me to disappear with no communication. They have another thing coming, let's put it like that. REALLY poor PR on their part. And cynical.

I suspect that VW could get me an ID.4 Pro awd in a few weeks if they wanted to. They don't seem to want to. I can't tell if they have just cut me adrift or what. It's just the sound of silence.

I did meet a young lady at a charger coming back from Seattle who said they waited a year for the Pro S awd. She wasn't very familiar with it and had a toddler with her. She was plenty freaked at the range as she had a ways to go east before turning north towards Canada and it didn't help that the GUI in the car was very unstable and blanking out and she was trying to use the braille approach. It's very rural in eastern Washington and we can have long winters. All along her route there were chargers down or being replaced at very inopportune time. I gave her tips on how to get range, like increasing tire pressure, not going above 60 mph, recirculating the heat and so on. That last run into Canada was going to be iffy. If she got across the border she'd be fine. I was getting 3.4 miles/kwh for the whole trip (Bolt w snow tires) but guessing she was at or under 3.0. I got home on a wing and a prayer but was wishing I'd brought my gear for charging at any kind of plug. The last 10 miles or so was on 'reduced power' which means nothing if you're not hogging down the road. Actuall I don't know how close to running out of power but the guess-o-meter on the Bolt is VERY accurate I find and I was sure we'd get home. My wife didn't seem too botheres as she's seen me pull rabbits out of hats by the dozen.

However, thinking of the young lady with a small child and only 250 mi range, in good conditions, I questioned myself about dealing with that and a black or frozen screen. It's just winter that I need awd/4wd. As long as I can get something before next winter I'm good.

LOL @ Lyriq. Caddy delivered 36 in Q3 2022 and a whopping 86 in Q4 2022........yes they delivered 122 Lyriqs in 2022 from July to December despite them being sold out. I would not call this a great track record unless we are solely judging the 139% increase in sales quarter over quarter.

Just curious, what EV model is GM introducing this month to the 30 model collection Mary Barra promised by 2025? That works out to 1.125 new model a month or are we going to get the whole shebang in December 2024? Asking for a friend. ☺
