I get it - ANYONE who is currently ordering a new car from ANY SUPPLIER is expecting a "longer than traditional" wait period.

For the thousands who are in the extended "wait period" for their id. cars, I believe that it is REASONABLE for us to expect better updates from VW. One specific example is PROVIDING MORE DETAIL on the period between "ORDER LOCKED" and "LEAVING THE FACTORY." How much trouble would it be to add some incremental steps such as (A) VIN Number Assigned, (B) Body Attached to Chassis (C) Final Inspection (???)

If you ask that question on the "My id.4 Reservation" site, you will get a generic response which basically refers you to the CURRENT information on the site (in other words, NOTHING that you don't already know), with no commitment to explore the idea, do DO ANYTHING .

I agree. The portal already has the hidden status codes for much more than what you are asking. The easy solution would be to make more of these codes become visible without having to use browser tools described here:

More-satisfied customers would result, Bob; I agree. But we don't know whether tracing the progress of a vehicle through it's creation and shipping would involve more expense for VW. Likewise, given the poor quality of the phone app for the ID.4, it would seem that greatly improved info flowing from VW is not likely.
