I just came to my vw on a hunch and there is a white id.4 here. They are prepping it from coming off the transporter and I am gonna drive it in a minute. The ev person said all dealerships should have them today!

Mine is Clay Cooley of Richandson near Dallas Texas.

Did they say whether that was the demo, or someone's preorder? If it's a demo, maybe I need to drive over to Richardson to check it out.

I've contacted a few dealerships in Oregon and they all say maybe by the end of the month to receive their demo cars. So, not everyone...

I was contacted a few days ago for the test drive event that VW is running with four cars, but my central NJ dealer still hasn't contacted me about anything regarding when my car will be arriving outside of "they're in the ports" a week ago.

Awesome! My dealer up in McKinney contacted me this morning about scheduling some time with their new demo.

My VW dealership sales guy took me on a short in town test drive in a black on black ID4 here in Houston a few minutes ago. The car is comfortably appointed inside, roomy leg and head room in both front and rear, and clear usable well illuminated displays at the steering wheel front and the larger one on the dash. The seats are very comfortable and supportive, and the view through the windshield is terrific.
In our short drive he demoed the regen braking in B drive, and we gradually slowed down. At the stop light he had to foot brake though, otherwise the car will creep forward if you don't. On our short drive our ID4 was responsive but very quiet(just a low humming sound). The suspension system was pleasing to me, less rough than my Atlas SEL We didn't do any freeway driving today. They just received the car late yesterday and have been charging it today. The center display read 71% charging with a driving range of 270 miles. When the car was on level 2 charging I did notice that the car doors need to be closed in order to disengage the charger. Our dealership also has a fast charger.
I enjoyed my first experience with the ID4 this afternoon. I've test driven the Tesla M3 and MY before, and my impression of the ID4 is more favorable than the Teslas. The ride is more comfortable, the suspension better, nicer quality inside the car, and I prefer the VW display layout and illumination. Our car had the updated software which had been installed overnight.
Without home charging I'm not in the market for an EV right now. But I can say that I had a favorable impression of the ID4 this afternoon. FWIW, I think VW is trying to deliver a high quality electric vehicle...its not a cheap feeling car.
