Things I need to learn about the car: a place for help

I am a few days old owner of my Pro S in the US and I definitely say I need to learn a few things about this car and it’s operating system. My car came in temperate measurement Celsius so I had to figure out how to change that, finally I did. Now I have noticed that it is showing extreme range mileage. I just charged my car over night and it is showing an expected range of 396 at 100% charged, also through car-net. The car last night was showing more realistic numbers on a quick run, I was around 200 miles range but then when I got back into my car on the same run it showed 274. This is all readings in the info cluster near the steering wheel. I think I found the menu to make sure it was on the right distance measurement for me, on miles not kilometers, all seemed good. Just wondering if I am missing something or is there something I am reading wrong. I will have a long drive tonight so I am going to keep track of this.

The range indicator on the dash is a function of your immediate driving history. Give it some time before it settles into more realistic numbers. In EV circles its called a guess-o-meter for a reason.

Thank you, I had no idea. This helps. Sorry for the basic question
Welcome! You're in the right place to get questions answered. Don't forget to use the search function, it's right up there in the middle of the header image. Look for "Search Community." So many questions answered here. I've learned so much!

You'll like the car. There's a steep learning curve, a consequence of buying a new model trying new things, but overall it's a very nice car.

thank you very much for the welcome. I am familiar with the site and did use the search, sadly I did not find an immediate answer to my question. Even tried to word it different ways.
Always feel free to ask questions about the car. We are all learning together an it is why this forum is here. I am surprised about the Celsius/Fahrenheit issue - I would have thought that would have been set correctly by the dealer? Might want to mention to service manager on you next visit. Keep track of items you think should have been gone over when car was delivered. Remember that this is a new platform for VW as well so anything we can provide to make the experience better for future customers is a good thing.

Thank you, good advise about keeping track. Haha sadly nothing was covered by my salesman at the end, it was temporary plates, key, bye. But in all truth I was done at that point, the buying experience was not totally smooth. I survived.

My Pro S also arrived set to celsius, but I rather enjoy digging through all the menus and perusing the manual. I also spend a lot of time on the forum and always appreciate seeing questions asked and answered.

My GOM is all over the place as well. Just try to turn the car on and off a few times quickly and you'll see a different range estimate every time. It's voodoo. Or perhaps the ID.4 takes the position of the stars into account. Or perhaps the car need an exorcist, who knows? What I haven't found is a way to show the battery % on the steering wheel screen. That is much more reliable indicator than VW's GOM.
Somewhere in the settings menu (don't recall off the top of my head, it has been a while) is an initial setup wizard. It runs through a few steps of common first time setup things. One of those is location/localization which should handle the Celsius/Fahrenheit.

There is a pretty large thread called something like "Questions...and hopefully answers" where a lot of us go to ask tension questions about anything and everything, so if you can't find what you need via the forum search function then that's always a good place to go post your question as well, instead of creating a new thread for each individual question.

(I don't know if the mods here particularly mind having a lot of new threads being created for single questions and such, I just personally tend toward using existing threads if possible)

Welcome! Enjoy your car
My delivery prep was actually better than most in my experience but mine too was left in Celsius. Likely upon US port firmware installation that was the default and the dealer didn't catch it. But then I didn't expect they would adjust everything and therefore spent a number of hours sitting in the vehicle with iPad-conveyed tutorials and going through everything. I still revisit settings as I learn more and/or my preferences have migrated in now close to 2-months of well appreciated use. :)

I was once above the Arctic circle in Norway at -40F and then it didn't matter. 😆

But humor aside that's exactly why we in the USA all our lives have conversely had such difficulty adopting metric standards.

I had a great experience picking up my ID4 today at Reydel VW in Edison NJ. Easy process and no BS. Nav, Ray and Amanda did a great job. Ordered on VW site 4/13 and picked up May 7th. Very cool car. Taking all day today to setup and learn.

New question: I have asked another trip I have still not received an answer. Does anyone know of any video or any instructions to help explain how a regular car connect to a Tesla charger. I understand there are devices called tesla taps that help you connect, I understand that, however what is necessary to work the Tesla charger? Do you need to open an account with Tesla for payment?

Someone mentioned to me that level 2 T chargers are free. I am not talking about the superchargers, I understand that those do not connect using a Tesla tap

The Tesla destination chargers are exactly the same chargers Tesla sells for your home. You just plug in and go - no account/no communication with the car.

Here is a quick video of the TeslaTap:

Thank you very much, now I feel I could buy the Tesla tap with more confidence.

I am sorry your sales person did not go over everything with you. He/she should have. There are some good sales persons and there are the rest!! :cautious: I have even had sales persons call me a day or two later to see if everything is OK. But today, I feel those type are an exception.
