I know that ID.4 can take a maximum of 48 Amp of charge on lvl 2 chargers. But I don't really see many EVSEs listed for 48A. Most are either 40A or 50A.
To my understanding that the LVL 2 charger is built-in on the vehicle, unlike DCFC that's led by the charging station.
So my question is: if you charge on a 40A EVSE, will the car recognize your EVSE is only 40A rated and lower the amperage it requires? Or if it would still request 48A and risk frying your EVSE? Is it better to get something that's rated for 50A or higher? On the other hand, if you have a 50A EVSE and plug the ID.4 into it, will it only provide 48A because the car would request that amount?
My other question is about the Tesla destination charger. After reading the manual of the tesla adapter for J1772, it said if the tesla charger blinks red, I need to turn down the power knob on the tesla charger because it would provide too much more amp. But if the charge was led by the vehicle, why would that charger send more power?
