Some really interesting comments in there from a 'VW manager' about product changes, etc. that are coming. I wonder if people are coming early to charge (i.e. at 20%) because a) they are used to that with their ICE car (refill at a quarter tank), b) some range anxiety and c) the lack of good onboard planning tools in the car navigation system.

I wonder, though we doubtful will never know, what Tesla sees from their fast charger network.

Like @fireboy92k I appreciated the ID4 charging news (Google translation slightly improved for better legibility):

The average charging time for VW ID vehicles on the fast charger is currently 30 minutes. And during that time only 30 kWh of electricity are drawn - because the charging point is activated too early.

“They don't come to the column with 5 percent SoC, but often at 20 percent” - and then don't experience the full charging capacity. With the new software version ID.3.0 for the ID.5 and all other VW EVs on the MEB platform, the charging curve has therefore been adjusted: the full charging power is available longer, which shortens the charging time by nine minutes."

The other 5% mentioned in the article is that when they were designing the car, they anticipated that it would be recharged 95% of the time at home and only 5% of the time on the go.

For those on the fence about whether to buy or lease, if you're thinking of using the free 3 years of DC fast charging exclusively, leasing may be the smarter alternative - With 3 years of constant fast charging, no telling what shape your battery may end up in. The free 3 years isn't looking like as big a perk as we may have originally thought
