Not to be a tease, but I noticed that the hardcopy of the manual is now available for purchase from VW. I had been watching for this for a bit to get a feel on car release date. This hardcopy release kept status of "backordered" for months with the "Stock Due date" continually moving out. Now that it's available, it's just another sign that we are getting close to 1st car deliveries.

This is the "2nd Edition" of the manual. I wonder why it's not the first edition.

Now we just need to find the PDF version of this one, not that I expect the changes from the UK edition to be significant. :)

I am assuming that you get only a printed copy and not also a PDF.

If you get both I may consider buying it.
I've never bought a VW before so I don't really know if this also applies to the US, but in Germany I've heard through Chris at Battery Life where you can lookup a softcopy of the manual online for free with your VIN.

I have never bought a VW before, or purchased a new car in the last 15+ years, but it seems crazy, making customers who spent tens of thousands to pay for a car, have to buy a manual.

I am pretty sure this is a replacement one in case the original that comes with the car is lost. They sell manuals for all of their models this way in case you don't have one and need it.

Here is the website that has them listed, at $50 the ID.4 one is cheap compared to some of the others!

in a strange twist, looking at the manual prices, looks like the US English 1st edition manual is $85 and the second edition is $50

And the Canadian version says it will be in stock on 2-27

Huh. I didn't notice two different US editions being available. Strange. They must have printed the first edition before realizing changes needed to be made. If anything, the first edition of the manual should be cheaper.

Let's see what edition we all get with our cars at delivery.

There's another "1st Edition": VW, 2021, ID.4, Owner's Manual, 1st Edition, 11.20, English, USA

The "11.20" is interesting. If this is a reflection of November 20, this would have been the week prior to locking deadline of the original 1st Editions. Are there differences between the first and second runs?

Went back and looked there are 3 US versions!

11A012723SB - 1st edition US
SC 1st edition US 11.20
SD 2nd Edition

whew that is a lot of manuals for a car not ever here yet! Maybe software update to 2.1 drove the changes?

The only reason to get the manual right now is because more specific information that isn't available online on the US version of the ID.4 will be in the manual. If it takes 1 month to get the manual it wouldn't be worth it since by then people will be getting their 1st editions and have access to VW's online manual as well as a printed manual.

I bought a limited edition scale model of my TTS prior to "FE USA" delivery.
Installed a charger for the FE ID.4 back in November.
People will do all sorts of crazy things when enthusiastically awaiting their vehicle. ;)

Of course the ID.4 will come with an Owner's Manual for the least of which reasons required by law in the USA and I expect most everywhere else.

I have a charger that I installed when I had the Kona. The charging port for that car is in the front next to the headlight - I am hoping that the cord will reach the ID.4, if it doesn't reach, I may have to back into the garage at least in the short term.

I have no real interest in moving the 50A receptacle.

Just to close out my previous comment... I'm sure current VW owners know this, but for anyone else, I did verify that even in the US you can lookup your car manual for free through VW's website with only your VIN. I tested the site with an older VW vehicle VIN published on a used car site. Works fine.

Now, if we only had an US ID.4 VIN #...

We really need a VIN to continue our sleuthing. With a VIN, we could see if we can do any specific ship, rail, or truck tracking. Ford allows a lot of tracking with a VIN, including public access to some of their truck shipping. First guess is VW does not, but we can only know for sure with a VIN.

Also, odd, Ford lists all of their demos which are not for sale (so there are lot of sample VINs out there), but there are no ID.4 anywhere (not even one) at places like autotrader. Dealers (at least NE) also do not yet show a single ID.4 (apparently consistent with the speculated batch release plan).

I guess if someone goes to a demo somewhere, try to get a snap shot of the VIN. Maybe at least we can look at its manual online (or not, if demos don't work). Also, with key letter codes of an ID.4 VIN, we could search our My VW webpage data (although that is increasingly looking like an exercise in futility).
