Yesterday I got an email from the dealer saying that VW had issued a minor recall on my ID.4FE - something about "a cap on the lights may or may not be installed". Did anyone else get notified about this? Any idea what they are talking about?

I was looking at the part numbers for the lights and there is a cap listed for North America that goes on the range adjustment screw, my guess is a DOT requirement to prevent interfering with the auto leveling motor?

Am I understanding correctly that the fix is to move the cap from the vertical to the horizontal adjustment? Wouldn't that then just shift the problem or does "FMVSS no. 108" not care about the vertical adjustment?

What's interesting here is that the fix is to move the cap from the vertical adjuster to the horizontal one. I read this to affirm our conclusions that the hardware supports the matrix functionality.

I just checked with my VIN (Pro S) and it is also indicating the service is required for the recall. When I go in for my 60 day checkup in a couple of weeks I will mention it to them. Thanks for the heads up as I didn't get an email notification either.

This appears to me to be a USA DOT compliance thing and no actual fault with the headlight system. They just want to ensure we don't have lateral beam movement capability.
I would be more concerned with vertical movement blinding oncoming drivers or not projecting far enough, which has always been an annual safety inspection check box.

I checked my VIN today and my Pro S has the recall notice. My dealer says they should have the parts in prior to my check up on the 16th and they'll do the recall then.
Your dealer is waiting for the parts? As I read the recall notice, the fix is to simply remove the cap from the vertical aim adjuster and relocate it to the horizontal adjuster. That gives me the impression that no parts are required, but of course I may be misreading the recall.

My Pro S on the other hand does not have the notice. So likely a problem they found at certain date and every one manufactured before that date will need the fix.

That's what he said to me. The parts should be there by the 16th when I'm scheduled to come in already and they would take care of it then.

Would this prevent the headlights moving with the steering? I actually really love that feature.
