Anyone in the US get an appointment to replace their 12V battery or get newer software? Since it is out for the new deliveries, it would be nice to get it soon on those the purchased earlier.

Though only VW knows if our 3.x is the same as the one planned and rolling out in Europe. There seems to be some chatter in YouTube from folks that have gone to the VW software events that their may be very slight differences, though VW is mum about them nor have the constradicted anyone saying they are wrong to suspect they might not be the same.

I'm hoping to buy a new ID4 this year, but have been hesitant because of all the negative reviews/feedback on the software (glitchy, slow, complicated, etc). Has VW fixed those issues with their software updates? For those who have been driving it for a while, is the complicated infotainment system easy to get used to? Does it become somewhat intuitive after some time? Thank you all for the help!

I took my ID4 to the dealer for the 10K service and was told that they will do all the updates (12V battery and software). Well it did not happen. My impression is that the people working in the dealerships know very little and can give the wrong information to customers. After I got the car back and realized none of that was done I called VW customer service and asked them about the updates for cars bought in 2021. They had no idea and no guideline to go by.

It seems like you've done some homework and have the knowledge base of the most frequent complaints.

Now do what I did and take that knowledge to a test drive – a real vehicle shakedown – to check the system speed and overall interface, how it works with your phone, the AA or CarPlay implementation, the various touch controls, the ACC, and last but not least the actual driving characteristics.

Expecting the worst, I think you'll come away relatively surprised how overblown most of these complaints and observations are, but that also depends on your past ownership experience and expectations.

And definitely temper your expectations. Updates are expected, endlessly debatable whether promised, but no matter, is this a UI you can live with? Because even when an update materializes, there's no expectation that any particular quirk your can't stand will ever be fixed. And a feature you do like may be in danger of going poof when the next OTA hits.

What else did they fix with the update? I have seen some things on YouTube with it saying that the update improved travel assist and not just the glitchiness

In my opinion the complaints are massively exaggerated. There is nothing difficult about the infotainment system. Yes it has some layers (submenus) to maybe get to the thing you are looking for but also remember that on a daily basis you probably aren't gonna be spending much time doing stuff with the infotainment anyways. Example, I get in the car to go to work; my phone starts talking to the car and my favorite music station comes on or playlist or whatever and I'm not pressing any buttons on the infotainment. The temperature is still at my preferred temperature, so is the volume... Then when I do want to change something it's very easy to do.

I have had my car for almost a year with zero issues, it is such a great car to drive. Highly recommended.
