I or my passenger have already broken two USB-C plugs due to the location right by the lower cup holder. This is my solution available on Amazon:

I noticed that the overpriced OEM charging cables also have this feature. I can't help but wonder if someone noticed the issue too late in the design and the workaround was special cables.
@VW TECHNICIAN any way to convince VW or any automaker at this point to put a USB-C port in the Rearview Mirror location....

Only aftermarket..... because of some markets require Airbag between driver and passenger in case of side accidents....And there are laws in some states that prohibit any attachments to the windshield or wire hanging from top of windshield.
Implementation to dashboard and other locations are more likely to be considered....

I’d happily take a readily accessible wiring harness and a small gap that could be used to run a cable.
btw: I have [re-]confirmed that only my front left USB-C is Apple CarPlay active for my iPhone 12 mini. When plugged into the right USB-C I don't get the CarPlay icon on the Infotainment system.
Not sure if this is an FE-only situation, iPhone 12 situation, my-only situation? 🤷‍♂️

But again, my wife's Benz GLA is similarly left-only wrt CarPlay. Must be a Germanic reason. ;)

As I just posted in the For Sale thread, I've created a solution to the center console cable problem if anyone is interested:

Sadly, the VERY overpriced OEM cable has the right angle on the Lightning end. The USB-C end needs the angle and that's just the normal straight.

I just purchases a pair of these: https://www.agoztech.com/products/mfi-certified-usb-c-to-lightning-right-angle-iphone-cable
