I had the trim around my wheel well come off the car last night. Guess with enough water, the trim will pull off.

for transparency, here’s the Scenario:
Driving late night after a heavy rain. Noticed water over road in my lane and slowed to 30mph in a 50, went through the puddle, not fast enough for water to get thrown onto windshield. Water was probably 1-2 inches, and I moved to center lane to ensure I wasn’t forging through the deepest part once it was clear (had to let a truck by). Got to stoplight and another motorist flagged me down to tell me my car was falling apart. Trim from the bottom (toward door) to the top of wheel well was detached

I'm trying to imagine ripping through 2 inches of water at 30 MPH. Am I wrong in thinking 2" is deeper than your average puddle, and 30 MPH is faster than reasonable for that depth of water? Isn't the max "safe depth" 4 inches?
