I like it; don't think it will make it to the U.S. though since they never brought the ID.3 here. I may be able to convince my parents to get it in Italy. Their garage is so tight they can pretty much only fit a Fiat Panda (I had a Dacia Duster rental last summer that managed to fit it in with only an inch on each side with the mirrors folded).

I think the closest alternative in US market will be Mini Aceman. It is basically the same size but more SUV like. Development is at least 2 years ahead of iD2, and if current BMW/VW EV tech is any indication, it will be a better car than VW.

How can you be 2 years behind in development if you are building on a platform that has been around for years.
ID 2 is only available for the EU market where the VW Polo is a great success and the ID2 will bring a perfect EV alternative.
The ID2 will be half the price of an overpriced car like the Mini Aceman.
EU is not waiting for a snob car like the mini, but for a decent affordable EV car.

If the price of gas was that of Europe and the streets were as narrow as they are in many parts of Europe - They probably would.

Having driven in Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands and Spain I've seen mostly small cars and lots of two wheelers, but there were many large sedans and SUVs as well. If petrol was less than a Euro/liter there would probably be many more dinosaurs on European roads. YMMV.

I drove rental cars in Europe, so I didn't have to pay registration fees. I know registration fees in Greece increase considerably for engines larger than 2 liters. Even so, back in mid 2021, I paid about 2 euros/liter, which is about $8/gallon. I think here in the US, that price for gas would cause many Americans to strongly consider driving a smaller and more efficient car. YMMV.

The ID2 reminds me so much of the Honda Fit we used to own, right down to the under-seat storage in the rear and the folding passenger seat. I'd buy an ID2 to replace my ID4 in a heartbeat! Great looks, great value, and super practical.

There are enough Golfs, Fits, Priuses, Bolts, and i3s around me to prove the small car theory false. Just because Ford and Chevy don't see a path to profitability through small cars doesn't mean Americans don't buy then. Well know for sure in just a couple of years.

They rev'ed high and were okay, but had no top end at all. The last Renault I drove in Italy some 20 years ago also drank oil.

I've lived on both sides of the pond. I've lived in cities where many of the streets were still following outlines inherited from the Roman empire (i.e. you can still derive the basic unit of width to 2 horse pelvises times X). I've also lived in cities that had 10-lane highways (that would translate to more like 15 lanes in europe).

In the case of VW, the most sold petrol cars are 999cc 3 cylinder engines and 1500cc engines.
999cc for Polo,Golf,T-Roc,T-Cros,Taigon.
1500cc for T-Roc, Golf, Passat and Arteon.
