Ohhh the stupid Tesla climate.... Incredible when someone has to keep their eye on a screen to figure out where the AC's blowing. That said, I kinda like the new GUI layout.
I think this is a case of it being too far along the sign-off process to change anything, even based on all the feedback from the current ID line-up.
I get the sense they are changing things for the sake of having something 'new' to show. Another case of going backwards IMHO.

Yeah the last thing I want to do it struggle to find the icon to adjust the air while i'm driving. It's too much.
It was good to move the drive selector off of the instrument cluster housing to the steering column but where is the control for the wipers? Also, putting a large screen up high on the dash results in having the center vents too low for A/C comfort. I would prefer a smaller screen in the dash.
I think VW has learned and they stated that they will move back to real buttons. The reality, however, is that auto companies make these decisions a few years before they can be implemented. VW must commit to buying the haptic buttons that their suppliers spent $$$$$ on designing, buying tooling for and ramping up production for the currently used haptic buttons for a period of time. Otherwise, teams of lawyers will get very busy.
I am one of the exceptions, I don’t mind the haptic buttons. I also like the smaller screen attached to the steering column and find nothing wrong with the gear selector. The larger screen could be okay depending on software and what they do with it.

New GUI looks really good. Tesla style climates gotta go though... Only benefit I see is that you can tie it to profiles and voice commands, but regular vents are just too convenient.
I believe in the ID Buzz, it is one and the same lever for gear, parking brake, and wipers.

I don't mind the haptic buttons, but I would be happier if they were illuminated, like in this concept. However, commentary from some journalists has mentioned the haptic buttons are only for the concept car and they will switch to physical buttons (at least on the steering wheel) beginning in 2024 (as with other ID models, apparently). The annoying thing will be the digital climate control - it's stupid in a Tesla, and it's even more stupid here - because they are using motorized louvers, compared to Tesla who just rely on the fans and dampers in the HVAC system... this is more points of failure. Fingers crossed that's just for the concept, but they seem to have invested so much effort into the software that it probably is production-intent.

fans on the Tesla is pretty noisy and weak though. The louvers is better imo
I also believe in the ID Buzz!
What happened to me when I rented an M3 is as the weather cooled down I felt slightly cold air blowing on my feet and it took me menu diving to figure out if the fan is on, and if it is it's just too cold, etc. I felt it to be frustrating.

Left stock is for wipers, lights (including blinkers). If you look at the images, you can see the wiper speed adjustment slider on it.
