The ID.4 will target the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and others that are part of a segment that sells over 4 million vehicles annually in the United States alone. If you're wondering how much of that Volkswagen can eat into, then this Q3 2020 business update should give you an idea...

I wonder, how many potential customers they are going to lose by not offering the ID.4 Max for reservation? They have already lost me.
I’m sure they’ll do just fine. None of those missing features are a deal breaker for me. I don’t need the fancy tech and the heat pump missing is just meh.
Every driver has unique needs. I think we all understand that. The manufacturer's aim, therefore, should be to satisfy all or most of the needs of their market segment. hopefully, VW has particularly good reasons for what I consider their short-sighted view on the ID.4 trims available for reservation in the USA.

I’m guessing a lot has to do with keeping the price point where it came out at. Adding some of the features from the Max would have boosted that price.
That does not make much sense to me. If the price of the ID.4 Max is the issue (which I doubt), then that would mean the ID.4 Max would not be offered in the USA, until such time that the price is reduced.
That would be like VW not offering the Tiguan SEL Premium because it costs more than the Tiguan SEL.

I don’t think you understood me. There is no Max coming here which I think you get. They continuously stated throughout the last couple of years where they wanted the price to fall. I think they set the price point they wanted to be at and worked backwards from there giving the maximum options that would appeal to the most people with the costs considered. So adding those features you are asking for would have pushed the price higher than they wanted to be and VW took an assumption that those features do not have the broadest appeal and therefore not worth including to start. I’m sure later models will come with those things as either single add one or part of packages. Not that hard to understand really.

I don't agree with you logic so let us agree to disagree.

Fair enough. Would like to know why you think these things aren’t being offered then.

By saying let us agree to disagree I was implying that I see no personal benefit in continuing this discussion.

Apologies for trying to understand your side of things.

Accepted but an apology was not necessary. Cheers.
