The production version of the ID.3 is set to launch before the end of the year. That means it’s time to start trickling out all of the juicy details about the first of the automaker’s new electric car brand.
For a start, VW says that the ID.3’s lithium-ion batteries will give the car a range of up to 340 miles. Though an option with as little as 205 miles of range (on the stricter WLTP cycle) will be available for those wanting a cheaper car. And it says that the automaker will guarantee that the batteries will retain at least 70 percent of that capacity after eight years and 100,000 miles.
Since Volkswagen expects half of charging to occur at home, the company is bringing a range of chargers to market as well. The home charging boxes will allow up to 11 kW which is enough to fully charge the car in a workday. Charge at a fast-charge station and the car can accept up to 320 miles of range in an hour.
Deliveries of the ID.3 are set to start in April of next year, with Volkswagen having taken around 20,000 pre-order deposits for the first 30,000 launch edition cars.
