Idk, I feel like 474 ID.4s is pretty pathetic considering they allegedly produce 800-1000 units a day in their German factory. I know Covid has complicated the rollout, so I can understand the slow start. But just from monitoring this site, there are plenty of preorders just twiddling their thumbs so there seems to be plenty of interest in the ID.4 in North America. Sail a few more over here and let us promote the car for VW!

It probably won't be until the TN plant opens that large sales numbers will be possible.

I'm thinking the 474 only counts the vehicles that have had the final paperwork signed at the dealer. In which case I am slightly surprised with the number since people weren't getting their hands on their ID.4s until mid March. 474 cars moved from port to dealer and finalized with the customer over a period of 2.5 weeks isn't too bad.

That production includes both ID3 and ID4 models for EU markets. Also, 474 is deliveries to customer's hands over basically a two week period.

Very hard to draw any conclusions so far, but I thought the intent was 100,000+ worldwide this year, roughly 1/3 in NA. So ~250/week would only get up to about 10,000 for 2021 and hopefully is representative of just a slow/rough start to deliveries. I know this forum is a bubble of enthusiasm, but it seems like there should be enough interest to get a lot closer to their target if they can just start delivering them to us.

You're right its too early to tell. Also, Canadian deliveries don't start for another few months.

This lines up with my thinking. We've heard over and over how much VW wants to make the ID.4 a global mass market EV. There certainly seems to be a market for a mainstream CUV EV, but VW needs to kick it into gear some. Summer for Pro models? Fall for AWD models? Canada hasn't taken a single delivery yet? C'mon, those timelines are silly slow if they want to hit 20-30k in NA by years end.

I think that number seems reasonable. I don't know of any dealerships adding $$ over MSRP in my area. Especially on reserved FEs.
In my 2 weeks of ownership, I have yet to see another FE "in the wild".

VW has given some contradictory guidance. The press release for the first Germany ID.4 delivery includes this:

2317

So about 150,000 deliveries in 2021. On the other hand, the press release about the first ID.4 arrivals in the US has this:

2318

I guess 150,000 is technically "well over 100,000," so Herr Zellmer isn't really contradicting himself.

As for the ⅓ in NA estimate, that last paragraph says the US and China together make ⅓. With 2 ID.4 models, a huge market, and more EV momentum, I would think China will represent more of that third than the US. But let's just say the US is half of that third. At a 150K total, that would be 25,000 in the US in 2021. That's over 2,700 deliveries per month for the rest of the year. To put it another way, if they were evenly distributed across all 600-ish dealers (which we all know they won't be...), that's about 4.5 per month per dealer.

Hmm. 17000 orders, and they are making 800 per day. If a 5 day workweek, thats 16000 per month they make. Seems like we should get ours sooner, since they can fill all orders outstanding. Except all our AWD.

@sprylo thanks for posting that. I had forgotten that the 1/3 was shared with China. As you say, they could represent a large share of that, so VW global could be OK with only continuing 250/week in NA (though VW in America & Canada surely hope for better, as do I). What's also important is that I think all of the ones sold in China should be manufactured in country, and not count against the Zwickau production figures we tend to quote.
