A now unpublished VW press release dated for April 29 said "Voltswagen" will be used on all EVs from the automaker. It will be placed on cars as a badge and U.S. operations will be named “Voltswagen of America.” The document also said this change “is expected to take effect in May.” With this will also be a new light blue color for the badge to help differentiate it from VWs ICE vehicles that use dark blue.
CNBC, USA Today and Automotive News confirmed with a source close to VW that this change is indeed happening. Its not an April Fools joke.
VW is doing it as a “public declaration of the company’s future-forward investment in e-mobility” that follows recent big developments in its push towards electrification. Power Day held earlier this month highlighted many of them that include six gigafactories and 18,000 fast-charging stations just for Europe alone. A roadmap for the U.S. has not been announced yet but this "Voltswagen" leak sure hints that we could be hearing about it very soon.
