Just more confirmation that VW gets what it means to be producing cars in this new age. No more purchase and ignore; looking at you GM. The new paradigm is that cars should be improving even after they are sold. Tesla understands this, Ford does as well with the Mustang Mach-E and VW is onboard and committed as well. VW ID’s are going to be hugely popular.

More like Windoze updates then. You can't drive for 30 minutes until the update is done?
It is great to see and hear VW leaderships commitment to OTA and Autonomous Driving capabilities. No doubt they have embedded the base line technology to make it happen. VW states they will have OTA updates every 12 weeks to start. Hope they can improve drivetrain and battery gateway to eek out more range!

On the Tesla, once the software is downloaded you can tell it what time you want to install or select to install right away. You can also request the install through the app (just make sure the wife isn't out with the car).

I get it why some people wouldn't want constant updates (as evident by Twitter replies to VW leader comment), but I think it's fantastic and exactly was I was hoping for. I'm so glad VW has embraced a system/process that allows for regular OTA updates. Nothing in this fast changing world is perfect, especially software, so having the ability to improve the car over time is certainly better than what we have been dealing for all these years. Bring it on!

I totally agree. There is so much software on this car to control subsystems, I can't believe that everything is dialed in already. Apart from the inevitable bugfixes, I really hope they will tweak control parameters to make everything work better, esp. range. I am thinking that optimizing across multiple subsystems presents extra room for improvement. That's how it is with my company's software, and all other software I have looked at closely enough.

I think your hopes are spot on of what will eventually happen. The size battery this comes with technically should move it more miles. They have some room to work. Even Tesla does this here and there.
