Well I think I'm jumping off the ID4 train. I am turning my lease in next week and will be without a car. I was willing to wait till December or early Jan, but this is pretty disappointing. I'll keep my reservation until end of year just in case this is just bad reporting though. Likely switching to Model Y

Of the stories we have heard:

  • Week of 12/17, from dealership EV specialists who would have heard as much from VoA
  • March 8, from VoA PR at the dealership tour, because of "software"
  • Late Q1, from media, by way of "sources" due to EU penalties

There's a collection of BS coming from Team Keogh that leaves little confidence in their commitment to the ID.4, and much less the EV program as a whole. I get the sense that my dealer is equally frustrated.

I'm still holding on my decision on my 1st Edition order. A GTI Autobahn is a stronger likelihood by the day.

I'm not too disappointed, since my ideal scenario is to take delivery in March so I don't have to pay $$$ to renew the tabs on my Leaf. As long as they don't slip any further I'll be happy.
Me too. Especially since it’s damn expensive here in Washington.

Perhaps in the interim they'll consider the heat pump for the US market?

April-May is fine for my post-FE Pro RWD, but any longer ..... Then again, I've been waiting 7 months for some Woodpeckers woodworking gear, and a small upright freezer, so it's been that kinda year. 🤷‍♂️

According to my dealer in Denver, the delay is specific to First Editions and will not impact AWD orders, which are slated for mid-2021. Hope that’s the case.
If it is truly only impacting the FE, It makes me reconsider just ordering the AWD. The advantage of having an FE is getting it early. I think VW not getting the FE in US market before the Mach-e is a big mistake as it gives potential customers another product to test drive and buy sooner rather than later.

Second the opinion that I may wait for the Pro. I really don't want a white steering wheel, glass roof, or 20" wheels, but I was willing to accept them for a late Dec/early Jan delivery. I made a second reservation for a Pro and it's quite possible that I'll forgo the FE and go for the Pro, if there is only a 2 month delay, rather than 6 month.

Just got my first call from my selected (never prior utilized) dealership. I guess they've been 'ordered' to make more contact given now the delay?

That is a very good point. The more the ID4 is delayed, more reservation holders will give up on their reservations and look to other vehicles.

I’m keeping my reservation for the time being, but the longer the delay goes on, the more I am willing to give up my reservation for a Pro to switch to a Model Y, or maybe the Mach-E.

Yep, huge mistake. So many other options are on the horizon. The thrill of having these cars so early was a big part of the appeal.

I put down $100 for an ID.4 Pro and don't mind if my order gets delayed. I'm happy to give VW time to fix any bugs in a brand new model, but more importantly, I'd like more time to evaluate new competition to be unveiled in 2021, like Hyundai's IONIQ 5 and Kia's CV (or whatever they call it).

That’s my thinking too. I find the Ariya interesting and there is always the possibility Elon drops the price and/or increased the range in the MY

According to Automotive News, Volkswagen has delayed the American launch of the ID.4 from late December to late in Q1 2021. Initial deliveries are scheduled for March.

It's being done to shift output to markets in Europe where VW is facing fines over not reaching emissions targets.

Will that allow us to make changes to our configuration?

Observing that many here are now weighing their options shows what a marketing gaffe for VAG this delay may be. And we’re the enthusiasts!!
And the non-enthusiasts won't know the difference. Unfortunately huge emission fines now win out over upsetting a few enthusiasts. I ordered an AWD ID.4, I knew I was in for a wait. I also haven't seen anything else that interests me.

Neither have I.
I haven’t seen anything else that interests me either. The Ariya looks really nice, but I don’t care too much for Nissans. A few years ago I really wanted a Tesla, but have lost interest in them. The Tesla Y would need to be discounted quite a bit for me to be interested in it. The Volvo and Audi are too pricey for me as well.

I canceled my FE reservation...VW is a mess. There's at least a 90 day delay now, after being told several times that then ID4 would be at the dealership by Christmas. Also my VW dealer told me that test drives wouldn't be available. I'm not going to put up with that... getting refunded and moving on. What a crock...HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Just did the same, I'll just wait it out now to see what options/manufacturers will be available. Tipping point for me was why ask for the$400 and then the delay, if VW didn't see the delay coming I can well imagine what other surprises might be down the road.

My instinct is that VW is in over their head with the EV thing right now, despite their sexy sales talk and videos, enthusiastic reviews on YouTube etc etc, bs and more bs, especially on their toll free customer service line( they have a different answer every time I call...ridiculous). They are trying to please the European market<masses, the Chinese, USA, Canada, all at the same time...it’s crazy. Consumer reports ranks VW near the bottom in reliability. Tesla ranks even lower. Also VW has problems with their EV software...we don’t know the real truth about those screwups.
I’m sounding pretty negative so I’ll stop. I just got tired of being hung out to dry by VW and am happy I canceled.
You don’t see the Japanese big boys like Toyota or Honda behaving like VW do you??
