Hi, I ordered my 1st Edition ID.4 on 12/02/2021. I was informed last week that it would be arriving to the dealership week commencing 8th March 2021. On Thursday, by chance, I saw that the dealership sales manager had posted a picture of an ID.4 in the colour I ordered on social media. I was told that only 1 car was arriving on 1st delivery in my colour, so I presumed that this was my car. I contacted my sales guy, and told him I had saw the online posting, and that I presumed that my car was now with them. He confirmed that it was, and that the car in the image was not my actual car. It was another they had ordered because “they liked that colour so much”. I. Accepted this, no issues. I asked for a video of the car they had in the showroom, so that I could see an actual right hand drive version for the first time, and also to check out the spec. It was received and after a few excuses, I got the video the next day.
Meanwhile, the guy who had posted the online pics, added a comment stating that car in the images was now sold and customer was picking up in 3 days. my sales guy said that he knew nothing of the tweets, and that it was impossible for the buyer to pick up the car after 3 days, due to it not being PDI’d.
Then back to the discussion about my car and possible delivery. I was told it was at the PDI centre. Having software updates. 2.1 is currently taking 3 days, and that the whole PDI process is currently 5 days (including the 2.1 update (??) and that my car would not be ready until late the following week (8 days, but only maybe ??).
I am starting to feel very suspicious about what is going on. Can any new car buyer give me some reassurance that what is happening here is normal procedure?.. because I don’t feel like it is. The whole experience so far has taken away the excitement of collecting the vehicle. I don’t feel as if I am being treated with respect and given the honesty that I expect from anyone that I deal with.
if you are an ID.3 owner or are in the same position as me with your ID.4 order, please let me know your experience. I need some reassurance that maybe PDI does take over a week for a new model. I am finding this all a bit suspect.

For your order the dealer got a Configuration Number that aligns a produced car to an order. Then they will get an updated production sheet that provides details on car VIN, production date, completion date, shipping date and projected ETA.
The dealer should share this with you without any problem. My dealer sent me the production sheet and info weeks ago. That said also be aware that VW did ship some demo cars to dealers before customer ordered FEs.

Thanks for that. I just hope the car that I went and had a sneaky look at an hour ago is not my car, sitting there to be locked at by perspective buyers. I took a photo of the VIN number, just in case. Its just the principal of the whole situation that is getting very frustrating. I just like honesty, which seems to be a big ask. They told me yesterday that they had no ID.4’s on the forecourt now, as they had all gone off for PID. Yet the car I got the video of yesterday, was sat there in the same position as it was when the video was taken. It’s just mind boggling!

For my 1st Ed that I pre-ordered in September, I was called by the EV Sales Specialist on Feb 22nd & informed that my ordered ID4 had arrived to Port. Furthermore, it was disclosed that they have been told by corporate that the car would arrive "after OR the week of March 15th." Also, at the time of the call the dealer had been told that their "demo unit" was likely coming after the "1st set of pre-orders" & not until April of 2021. In that call, I asked for my VIN & within an hour I got an email of it.

This past week, the dealer I am using suddenly listed (3) ID4's, 2 of which were labelled as "Sale Pending." Yesterday (at a different dealer that I am using, but that is near my house), I saw a black ID4 in their lot. (posted on this forum) The local dealer to me has no pre-order 1st Editions from the original, but they got their demo on or about yesterday.

I've got a few EV driver friends who reside closer to my dealer of choice & are going to drive through their lot this weekend to take a peek for me.

An EV specialist on a FB group mentioned yesterday that the PDI was long. If the ID3 software updating is to compare: The ID4 update is likely a 6-8 hour ordeal PER CAR.

Yes, I heard about the same amount of time from an ID.3 guy on YouTube. 7-8 hours for the update. The time the sales guy has quoted just threw me a little. I think I will just play along and try and get the VIN number from him in next contact, hoping it is different from the one I took today. It’s feeling a bit like a cat & mouse game at the moment. The whole “getting a new EV” experience is becoming very weary. I wanted excitement and a nice build up to the delivery... but that feeling has long gone. The car in the forecourt had 10 miles on the clock yesterday. Seems a bit high even before it goes in for PDI (with road test) and update? I just hope it is not my car being used for staff first drive experience or other. The sales guy also said in the video that the car was still in transport mode, but it clearly wasn’t. I have seen enough on YouTube to tell the difference on the dash display.
I have lost trust, lost the buzz and now wishing I had gone elsewhere, especially after reading trustpilot reviews of the VW outlet, following this weeks dramatics. It’s not looking good, I may be forced to cancel, but I have a back up plan, so the stress is now going right over my head. Car sales guys have such a bad reputation in the UK... and finding a good one here is not an easy task.. and I am feeling that more than ever right now.

You guys are lucky to have that one for insurance. We don’t require that in the UK for ours. We just go by car reg number. Also, the manager is involved in the BS. He is the one posting the image of the car in question on Twitter, without the knowledge of my sales guy.. and probably after too many beers late in the evening!
I will get to the bottom of it, that is certain! If they want to play the dodgy sales guy card, then I won’t give them the £38000 that they are wanting (for their cut of the commission).

I'm in the UK, according to the VW car checker my car has now arrived in the UK. It changed from yesterday when it showed to in transit, and now suggests its in the UK. If this is accurate, ot will have come over on the ship the Malacca Highway this morning into sheerness (there are normally three boats a week that bring VAG group cars into this port), VAG use a couple of other UK ports. My dealer is approx 20miles from Sheerness.

Therefore if the tracker is correct, and logistics are prompt, I'm expecting after PDI, registration etc i should get my ID.4 and if this week, start of next.

Regarding software, it was on for build week 4, was finished week 7, and according to VW CS sat at the factory pending software update, so I'm hopeful this has been done already, and not something the dealer needs to deal with..

Where is your dealer in the UK? And have they mentioned which port it should be coming into?

Thanks for your suggestion.. it just pushed me into being up front and asking for it. I got it straight back in 2 minutes on email. The stress is over. It is not my car on the forecourt!
still, where is it, and why so long in PDI?
I guess it’s now time to chill and be patient.
thanks all for your input!

Which dealer are you using? And where are you in the UK? ... what does your car tracker say? ..
Although it can be rather vague... my trick is to delete the car from the tracker, then re input it and the tracker will then update, if there has been a status change...

Regarding car registration, this process of application by the dealer can be very quick, if their admin is upto scratch. And as you'll know in the UK as soon as you have a car reg, insurance can be taken out instantly.
