I've had my 2022 VW ID.4 for a few weeks now. My wife does most the driving, there's a few things I'd love to be in an eventual update via software.

1) Auto-lock on exit. The auto start and auto-unlock are great.. but why do I need to fish my keys out of my pocket to lock the car when I exit? So frustrating coming from a Honda Clarity Plug in that has this option. I never want to have to take my keys out of my pocket. Should be an easy software update right?

2) Another great feature of my Honda Clarity that is missing. You can assign your key fob to the user. So seat position adjusts as soon as you unlock the door. I share this car with my wife and can hardly squeeze into the seat upon entry. My Clarity knows what user you are based on the key fob.

3) Total revamp of the MyVW app to add some semblance of usefulness and stability.

More to come.. but those are the big ones for me thus far. And very noticeable coming from a Honda Clarity that already had features I'm very accustomed to and seem simple to implement.

4) Battery conditioning for scheduled departure. Help us our when it's cold, VW!

5) Battery conditioning for DCFC. Help us get back on the road and free up the charging stall, VW!

6) Unlock doors from app. Handy – I don't always have a key in my pocket.

7) Selectable L2 charging amperage. Let this thing slow-cook all night long, I'm in no rush.

8) OPD option for those of us who want to keep mud off our brake pedal.

Have you tried just touching the indentation on the door handle? That should lock the door. No need to use the fob at all.

+1 on the other suggestions.

I'd love for the ID.Light to be used in conjunction with travel assist. Give me two green dots when its active and tracking, turn them white when it they stop tracking the lane markers. So that I can do a slight glance downward, still looking at the road, and see if it's still running, instead of having to look down at my dashboard.

I heard that was possible... but honestly I'm just so used to walking away and when i get 10 feet from my car the doors lock. It's such a simple yet glorious feature that once your used to having it.. it's frustrating to live without it.

App updates:

Lock/unlock doors - I am shocked we don't have that. We need to start a petition and send to VW
Display odometer would be nice to have
Scheduling for when car warms up the cabin

In addition to other good ideas listed above:

  • give me the option to not have to hit "OK" every time I get in the car, just default to the only profile I have set up. Or default to a given profile tied to the key that is in the car. If I want to change it from the default make me work for that (since I never will)
  • Show EA stations on the map when it is zoomed out. I got used to navigating manually from charger to charger in the Tesla and I do it the same way in the ID4, but I have to know where the station is and zoom in enough for it to show up.
  • a shortcut to turn on the heated steering wheel
  • Stop shutting the car off every time I am in a drive through and I unbuckle and get up a tiny bit to get my wallet out
  • a real dog-mode

And I will reiterate that it is utterly ridiculous that we don't have fast charge preconditioning and plug and charge yet. That should be priority #1 on the next update which should come in the next three months or less. If I were in charge I would tie that performance goal to an upper level manager's job.

Posting on behalf of my 65 lbs sheepadoodle, using Google Translate:
“Love the car. Hate no dog mode. These people, I swear!”
