I've had my 2022 VW ID.4 for a few weeks now. My wife does most the driving, there's a few things I'd love to be in an eventual update via software.

1) Auto-lock on exit. The auto start and auto-unlock are great.. but why do I need to fish my keys out of my pocket to lock the car when I exit? So frustrating coming from a Honda Clarity Plug in that has this option. I never want to have to take my keys out of my pocket. Should be an easy software update right?

2) Another great feature of my Honda Clarity that is missing. You can assign your key fob to the user. So seat position adjusts as soon as you unlock the door. I share this car with my wife and can hardly squeeze into the seat upon entry. My Clarity knows what user you are based on the key fob.

3) Total revamp of the MyVW app to add some semblance of usefulness and stability.

More to come.. but those are the big ones for me thus far. And very noticeable coming from a Honda Clarity that already had features I'm very accustomed to and seem simple to implement.
I too have spent a little time in my 22 ID.4 proS AWD. I can nearly always lock the door by pressing a finger or thumb to the sensor- keys in pocket. When I get in, the seat is always back, and only moves up when I step on brake.
but … I have never been able to get past “guest.” There is no primary user. 2 trips to dealer and powwow with sales and service Dept reps.. told me I must call myVW software and speak w rep before they can top out the communication gear and replace it. Well, the rep told me it’s a known problem and has been “moved to the highest level of priority” in the den of coders and duch, that either a push update or an emailed link will come soon. Still waiting… How is it that they are all do different and also so glitchy? I understand if it’s a my 23 made in TN being different from a 22 made in Germany, but “sheesh” as some like to say.

still shouldn't need to do that, even. This is a very solved problem and I don't understand VW and Audi's opposition to it.
Sounds like you've never had anyone dawdle in the back seat after you exit the car and shut your door in your auto-lock vehicle. Wouldn't they get get locked in (I'm thinking child here with child locks active) and require you to unlock the car? Or what happens if, for instance, you exit your auto-lock car, shut the door, then remember the bag of groceries you left in the back seat? Do you have to unlock the car to retrieve it? So your auto-lock car is always locked, even while it is parked in your garage?
Seems to me that requiring an explicit lock command of some kind handles the widest range of use-cases with the least amount of annoyance. Touching the indent on the handle is such a minor effort!!

I'm not picking sides here @PlainTom and have never desired auto lock or even unlock on approach (or whatever it is we have now), but auto lock on exit would only lock as the person carrying the key walks away from the vehicle.

As for your two examples, I lock the car while my preoccupied kids are slacking off on the back seat and they get out just fine. If I forgot my sacks of groceries in the back seat presumably I'd still have my key in my pocket when I spin around to retrieve them.

Whether anybody locks or didn't lock their car while garaged is up to them: like unlock on approach, this is a user-selectable OPTION, nothing would be forced on anybody.

IMHO a car that is capable of automatically unlocking when approached by a key carrier ought to be able to do the reverse – the capability is obviously there, and without it the design language feels slipshod and incomplete.

Others have had the same problem. They called Carnet and had them switch their cellular from T Mobile to Verizon. After that they were able to login as Primary user. There are a couple of discussions topics that talk about this.

First thing would be to determine what cell service your car has now. You can do this from the app by clicking on the three dots.

In an ICE car if you run out of gas you can get a gal gas can and walk and get gas or if you have road side service you can get a gal of gas brought to you. Also most ICE cars have a reserve tank like on the size of about one gal, which gets switched over when you run out,

On that same idea it would be nice to have like a rescue battery in the back that is always connected to the car’s battery system and keep charged and does not kick in until the main battery reaches 0. The rescue battery should have an override so that you can flip it on before your main battery runs out, but needs to have some restrictions so that people can not turn it on while you have like 30 miles or more left on your main battery. You don’t want to use your rescue battery up before needed. Also since it is a battery and you need to discharge them every once in awhile maybe have like a maintenance mode where when your main battery is fully charged you can drive on the rescue battery to discharge it. The rescue battery should be able to hold a big enough charge to maybe get you like 20 to 30 miles down the road.

I know this is not a software wish, but maybe a good idea to add on a wish list.

Actually, the ID4 already has some reserve left when the battery charge reads zero. I believe it is roughly another 3% or so. You start getting recharge warnings when you reach the 20% remaining charge level. So, the question becomes, just how much more warning do you need?

Because CCS fast chargers are on every corner and spaced out every 10 miles along highways, so yes, how much more warning does one need?

I remember you saying you’re in the southeast, so I know this ain’t truth! Lol
Yes, that was sarcasm. I just don't like indicating my sarcasm by "/s"

Hello ID... set Adaptive Cruise Control... waiting... waiting...
Hello ID... set Traffic Assist... waiting... waiting... waiting... 🙄.
Actually, I have the opposite problem. The voice activation comes on randomly during normal conversation between me and my wife, and I swear that "Hello ID" is never part of those conversations.

Mine would trigger during music, so I turned it off. I’ll just use the steering wheel button if in need to do a voice command

It's interesting to follow the newish ID4 owners request options and features that early owners suggested in Mar-May 2021 😉.
Hello VW are you listening/reading yet?
It's SO sad that you can't implement easy SW fixes and improvements.
The ID4 could be so much better with just a few of the items listed here that our previous, even VW, cars had.
I remember complaining about not having a sunglasses holder like my 2013 Jetta hybrid had 😬.
Yep - this is so frustrating. I'm going to ditch the ID.4 as soon as another option exists. I already talk everyone I meet out of buying one, and I will continue to do so until they fix these VERY obvious SW issues.

What is needed is a lever on the floor of the car that switches over to the spare electricity when you move it to the "reserve" position. And that you have to remember to put back to "open" when you charge the car.
