VW ID.6 Spotted Testing

The Chinese market has long appreciated more rear seat volume. The Audi A8L ('L' for long) was initially developed for their market and then became popular in the USA upon release, especially by realtors and the like to convey clients.

Quite conceivable therefore that a "stretched" ID.4 -> ID.6 would be desired by a segment of USA buyers. After all the Tiguan 3-row option is now popular with many. My daughter-in-law now drives a 3-row Subaru as it's not just about her two children but also the Little League/Soccer friends. ;)

Welcome to the forum!

Good to hear, especially as again very conceivable the longer ID.6 makes its way to the USA at some point (TN* factory?).

When we didn't know much about the ID.4 I was hoping that it would be about the length of the original Tiguan, but then it turned out to be only slightly shorter than the current model. But similarly given the ID.4's exceptional maneuverability and turning radius I don't really notice the additional length compared to driving my wife's shorter Benz GLA pre-2020 CUV.

I typically like shorter CUV's (heck, I can't usually even be bothered to spell out the longer Chattanooga*) but can understand other's needs for a longer configuration.
Just test drived ID6 in the dealer, same experience with ID4, just a little longer But u cannot feel it while driving

My wife's 2018 GLA still has a numeric keypad, but then Benz is slower than most to adopt newer technology.
The car my ID.4 replaced was a 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription. More than just a fancy badge, the Inscription S60 variant of that vintage was the first Chinese-built mainline car to be sold in the US. It was 3" longer than the standard Swedish-built S60s, with about 3½ more rear seat leg room, for transporting adults, just like the scenario you describe. My wife still has a fondness for that car. Perhaps we don't feel like the ID.4 infotainment is behind the times because of the prior 5 years with a car that sported a telephone keypad button layout on the center stack, underneath a 7" screen.

I don't fully understand your latest response. You initially cited that you test drove the ID.6 and presumably liked it with little notice of its additional length.

Then you state that this, made for CHN market ID.6 (not available USA), "feels like piles in an elephant into ur fridge when u parks in the lot in China" which I presume to mean it is too long for most CHN parking spots and therefore difficult to maneuver.

So I presume you like its drivability on the open road but not close quarter parking? That would likely also be a consideration in the USA, if and when it is marketed here.

Pretty sure it meet the demand of US market not China. Especially it feels like piles in an elephant into ur fridge when u parks in the lot in China lol.

Thanks for the added insight. Folks here in the USA also often buy larger vehicles than they need and then lament the difficulty in parking/maneuverability, and in the ICE world right now decry the high fuel cost. Never seem to learn. 🤷‍♂️

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've read that in the CHN market the longer rear seat volume is somewhat of a status symbol, along the lines of a limo experience? Again that's why the Audi A8L became popular in the USA after initial CHN market as especially a client-impressing factor in real estate and similar uses. I have a friend who owns an elder care franchise and he got his A8L for just that reason (well, his wife likes impressing too but that's another story .... :ROFLMAO:
Ooh sorry for the confusion. Actually I have lived both in the US and China for several years, based on my experience, I did not feel any difference on road width. But the parking lot will be another story....Parking lot in China, expecially the public ones are always sooo narrow, sometimes soooo short as well. In some parking lot of malls have built for years, you parked a midsize sedan right in the middle of the lot and have same midsize vehicles on both side, then you may cannot open the door properly...And I never met this issue in the US...
I know that is sounds weird, but people here still want bigger cars though. Like every 'longer version' vehicle you know. Maybe this is why VW build ID6 here.
