If thats what they are announcing today at CES, I'm glad I didn't wait for it. But the naming ID.7 doesn't really make sense, it's a smaller car. ID.7 should mean larger.

The Aero or ID.7 is bigger than the ID.4. The prototype shown last year was 197" long. This looks smaller but that may be do to a higher roof line. Not that I am a betting man but I would guess that the production version is going to be similar in size to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 which is 191" long and 59 inches tall.

I personally looking forward to seeing another car option other.

Yes a smaller ( lighter) car with maybe the same battery size as ID4 which gives over 300 mile range would be a great option

It could also mean a higher-trim level vehicle.

It could also just mean the seventh vehicle in the ID.x series.

It's probably not lighter or necessarily smaller in volume, it's shorter in height. That's the most important geometric thing for range (especially highway range which is what most people worry about) , frontal area combined with drag coefficient.

Previous statements said the target range was 700km wltp, which should be well over 300mi real world. Id4 is 523km wltp

Big car companies think in market segments. ID.7 will replace Arteon, which already replaced the Passat in North America. ID.8 will be the three row that replaces the Atlas. The ID.4 covers off the Tiguan already, which leaves two holes in the lineup… Taos and Golf. ID.3 won’t come to NA under that name. but they did make noises and an ID.Golf… and there’s room for a smaller SUV (ID.2, perhaps?) to replace the Taos. (And of course ID.Buzz re-enters the van segment left empty since the poorly-conceived Routan was given back to Chrysler where it belonged.)

(Edit: forgot the Jetta! But maybe they could make a sedans versio of the ID.Golf… or they’ll just drop a small sedan from the lineup like Ford and GM have.)
