I didn't know that. I drove on the M1 motorway and the country roads for two weeks. It was weird at first driving on the left side, changing the gear and operating the handbrake with my LH. I got used to it after a few miles of driving around and headed to the country roads.

I found my biggest challenge was driving into roundabouts, but having the gear shift on the left helped keep me “situationally aware”.

That was a challenge for me too because I was used to the traffic lights. Entering runabouts was easy, but exiting it was pretty crazy. I missed my exit a few times, but I quickly learned the tricks to exit in the runabouts. We have a few of those runabouts called traffic circles in ON, but I don't think they'll ever replace the traffic lights any time sooner.

Oh I grew up navigating rotaries/traffic circles but here in North America, ours wind counter-clockwise. ;-)

Roundabouts/rotaries/traffic circles have the significant advantages that:

• In situations of light traffic, they flow much better than a signalized intersection while still being pretty good even in heavy traffic.
  
  
• Nobody ever gets “Tee-boned” in a rotary.

They take a lot more land area, though, than a signalized intersection.
