Does anyone know for certain if this covers the high voltage battery?

Here is what I found:

Volkswagen Platinum Component Coverage
In addition to offering the same features of Powertrain, Silver, Gold, Platinum expands to cover almost all assemblies of your vehicle, giving you the "Ultimate Peace of Mind" protection.
Volkswagen Covered Parts
It's as simple as this: If it's not on the very short list of what's not covered, it's covered!
For years, millions of Volkswagen Drive Easy Platinum customers have known that, "From the engine to the trunk lock, if a part breaks - even if it results from wear and tear* - and it's not on the list of the few items not covered, Volkswagen Platinum will pay for the repair less any applicable deductible - whatever the Volkswagen part!"
Platinum is so comprehensive that it virtually covers every mechanical, electrical and electronic component of your Volkswagen. There are only a few exclusions that are not covered:
Volkswagen Non-Covered Parts
  • Maintenance services and parts (refer to coverage agreement)
  • Brake linings
  • Brake drums and rotors
  • Disc brake pads
  • Standard transmission clutch components
  • Air bags
  • Solar powered devices
  • Hinges
  • Glass
  • Lenses
  • Sealed beams
  • Body parts and/or panels
  • Trim
  • Moldings
  • Door handles
  • Lock cylinders
  • Tires
  • Wheels
  • Batteries
  • Light bulbs
  • Upholstery
  • Paint
  • Bright metal
  • Freeze plugs
  • Heater and radiator hoses
  • Exhaust system
  • Shock absorbers
  • Audio
  • Security or other systems not factory installed
  • Work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing
  • Constant velocity joint boots
  • Safety restraint systems
  • Cellular phones
  • Electronic transmitting devices (except for those specifically listed under silver, gold, or gold plus coverage)
  • Radar detectors
  • Appliances
  • Near object avoidance systems
  • All laser radar cruise control components
  • Vinyl and convertible tops

The high voltage battery has a separate warranty than the rest of the car. The battery has an 8-year/100,000 mile warranty guarantee the batteries will retain at least 70% of their usable energy capacity.

I know that, I am thinking about a longer warranty. like 150K miles. I was wondering if the VW Platinum extended warranty would cover the battery.

Given the fact that "batteries" are explicitly excluded from the warrantied list the safe conclusion is that the high-voltage battery would not be covered.

Now, you're probably thinking that refers to the 12v battery and I'd agree with you; however, you're not going to get any traction if when VW refuses to cover it and a judge wouldn't have any grounds to take your side in the disagreement.

Anecdotally, I bought an eGolf from a dealership who provided, free to their customers, a lifelong powertrain warranty. When I asked if that meant my battery and motors were covered for life they told me they didn't think so and I didn't keep it long enough to find out.

Honestly, being that the ID.4 isn't an ICE vehicle, that list of exclusions pretty much excludes everything about the ID.4. You'd be better off seeking a third-party extended warranty if you really want one.
