The I.D. family is set to expand and it looks like Volkswagen is coming closer to finding names for the new members.

According to new trademark filings registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), VW is interested saving the names I.D. Cruiser and I.D. Freeler.

We’ve long known that VW has plans to introduce more I.D. models around the world, but it’s hard to pinpoint what market these names are intended for since WIPO covers most of the world.

We do know that Volkswagen previously revealed that at least two new I.D. electric models are coming stateside in addition to the vehicles based on the Buzz and the Crozz concepts.

These models – a sedan and an SUV concept – are expected to arrive before 2022. They have been referred to as AEROe (sedan) and Lounge (SUV), in previously leaked documents.

Our sleuths also uncovered trademark applications for the name “I.D. Streetmate” in September.

Europe, meanwhile, will have at least one more I.D. model than us: a hatchback. This model will not reach America and is likely to be one of a number of electric VWs not offered here.

Based on the MEB platform, the I.D. family of electric cars will come with 375 miles of range. There is a motor in the rear with another (optionally) in the front. Each powers the wheels it is nearest.
